The Other Moore Summary
In the publication, “The Other Wes Moore,” the author describes how many different situations affect two boys, the author, Wes Moore, and the felon by the same name. They both had been in a similar situation: They were both in a poor neighborhood, surrounded by drugs, crime, guns, and a lack of education. Even though they both had a similar life, the felon had gone down a path he shouldn’t have gone on, while the other became a successful author! This seems a bit odd, right? They both had very similar lives, but they didn’t end up the same. Maybe digging a little deeper into this problem would help us understand why what happened, happened! Now looking deeper into Wes’ life would probably help us understand a little bit of why he turned to

Columbine by Dave Cullen is based upon the true story of the author’s research that took ten years to find out why did Eric Harris and Dylan Kleblod decide to go on a shooting spree at the Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado on April 20, 1999, and what became of the survivors? As the author explains in his book, the two young men Eric and Dylan had a plan to blow up their school, surpass Columbine in horror, and leave a “a lasting impression on the world.’’ The bombs that they planted in the school failed, but they instead proceeded to shoot anyone on site with the heavy numbers of weapons that both shooters had. In this revelatory book, Dave Cullen produces a profile of two teen killers that are the outcome of psychopathology. He reveals two radically different killers. Eric Harris, the brutal mastermind, and Dylan Klebold, the quivering depressive who wrote in his journal obsessively about love and attended the Columbine prom three days before they opened fire on students. They were able to fool everyone they knew in such manner.…

Both of the Wes Moore’s had varying motivations for their incidents throughout the second book that prove that the author runs by a more varied motivation whereas the other Wes runs on a more selfish aspect of intrinsic motivation. In the Memoir, The other Wes Moore, the author gets to the point where he’s slacking off in school and something motivates him to hurt his own little sister “…As she did, my right knuckles skipped off her shoulder and into her bottom lip, which immediately stained red. In more shock than pain, Shani saw this as an opportunity …. She smiled slyly as the blood covered her bottom row of teeth…(Moore 88). In this portion of the book this was Wes’ mom’s last straw that got him sent to boot camp, but what motivated him to do so? It mentions in the text that he was punching his sister lightly because he was bored and that is a very intrinsic thing to do. It was the “carrot and stick tactic” in the sense that he was doing something repetitively for the sake of intrinsic satisfaction of getting himself out of being bored, but in the end he got the stick, which in this case was having done to him what he thought was all bark an no bite (Pink 63-64). He did not expect to get sent to military school. When he thought that he was going to get an intrinsic reward of eliminating his boredom he ended up getting the…

A form of literature that is rapidly growing more popular today is that of the graphic novel. This unique type of text has been associated with and been more commonly called the comic book. But, in recent years, this form of literature has grown more powerful through the realization of all the values it offers and has thus caused scholars to adopt other more sophisticated names such as graphic novel or graphic narrative. Books that have become sources of scholarly learning have been categorized under these titles to make the field sound more appropriate than comic book, which could be mistakenly perceived by others as something that may be childish or adolescent. Such a thing would cost the literature its’ credibility and cause people to lose…

The experiment is one day she tells her students that the blue eyed kids are better then the brown eyed kids and vice versa the day after. The first day the teacher said the blue eyed kids were better than the brown eyed kids the blue eyed kids started making fun of and fighting with the brown eyed kids which made the children feel that they were lesser than the blue eyed kids which affected their learning in a damaging way. The next day the same thing happened when the brown eyed kids were told to be better than the blue eyed kid (Peters). When the experiment was over their view on discrimination was changed forever. From that experiment they learned to not discriminate through facing how it felt to be discriminated against there genes had not contribute to how they learned not to discriminate.Psychologist Peter Neubauer from an adoption agency wanted to see if twins who were separated at birth if they would grow to be there own person or their genes would over power individually. You may have seen it films, you may have read about it but you will pinch yourself twice before believing this. Imagine killing someone, landing up in prison, getting out on parole and suddenly cut loose for 40 years while still on parole. Well, cut loose not voluntarily, but because the lawmakers simply forgot about you, just like that! This is the story of 79-yr-old Frank Dryman, the once notorious killer of Montana who killed a man and escaped the noose in 1951. Back then, he went by the name of Frank Valentine. Less than 20 years later, Dryman got out of prison and escaped parole because he did not like his wife (pinching myself yet again!). But guess what, his escape was hardly noticed. So much so that he too began to feel absolutely normal after a few years and lead a new life under different identities. That includes performing weddings under new identities, one of which was ‘Victor Houston’. Dryman then invented a whole new life and started a family. Aside from the wedding chapel business, he volunteered for local civic clubs. The fresh start went so unnoticed that he even claimed his benefits from the Navy where he served in the late ’40s. How about that? Dryman never thought of himself as a parole violator (no room to pinch anymore!). All was going fine until the victim’s grandson, Clem Pellet, an oral surgeon from Bellevue, WA, began to poke around. Pellet wanted to find out more about the Montana side of his family and his parents too had never spoken about the murder. Thus began his quest to unearth this entire incident, right until the cops knocked on the doors of Dryman. Now Pellet wants to capture it all in a book and is keen to meet Dryman to fill in some gaps. Understandably, Dryman is not eager to meet him. Catch Me if You Can…
