Terminator: Genisys: Film Analysis
“John Connor sends Kyle Reese back in time to protect Sarah Connor, but when he arrives in 1984, nothing is as he expected it to be.”
Before the start of the film I debated whether or not to make the trek to the concessions for some Popcorn, and I can now tell you that it was truly one of the best decisions of my entire life. Okay, maybe that’s overstating it a bit, but seriously, that’s the type of film this is. ‘Terminator: Genisys’ is the film equivalent of comfort food, it’s simple and fulfilling, but you feel guilty after consuming it. I’m not going to sing the praise of this film, a little bit because I can’t sing, but mostly because this isn’t a film that everyone needs to see.
I have an odd relationship with this film, it entertained me from start to finish, and at no point did it drag or feel grueling. Some might chock that up to good pacing, but I’d chock it up to lots and lots of brainless and inconsequential explosions. Let me be honest with you for a second, I secretly enjoy a lot of films because I know they’re bad, but that doesn’t make them any less enjoyable. Again, I hold no ill will against the guy, but this isn’t a role that complements him as a Thespian. One of the few good things about ‘Terminator Salvation’ was Christian Bale as John Connor. I don’t think Clarke has the grit to play the leader of the rebellion. I feel that might be why Jennifer Lawrence is kind of withering in the role of Katniss, she lacks the grit needed to appear as someone who can spark a fire that fuels a rebellion. And when Clarke turns into the robot-human hybrid, that’s when he starts to seem even more miscast. Clarke completely doesn’t sell that he’s a robot, I bought into it because of all the CGI surrounding his body, but performance-based alone, he’s not a
