Summary Of We Are Virginia Tech Speech
The morning before Nikki Giovanni’s speech a terrible event had occurred, when a student at Virginia Tech starting shooting fellow students. This shooting spree lasted for about two hours and by the end there were a recorded thirty-three deaths including the shooter. After this shocking event so many students and families were crying over friends, family and loved ones. Nikki Giovanni, in the speech “We are Virginia Tech” in 2007, addressed the Virginia Tech students fear and sadness. The speaker uses repetition, imagery and point of view in her speech to bring listeners in and to also help people through these rough times.
In the speech “We are Virginia Tech” , Nikki Giovanni uses repetition throughout the whole speech to bring across her message. Nikki Giovanni says “We are Virginia Tech” over and over in her speech, in the beginning, the middle and the end of the speech she keeps on repeating “We are Virginia Tech”. This shows unity between Nikki Giovanni and the students of Virginia Tech, it shows that they are all going through this tragedy together. Nikki Giovanni uses all these sad events to bring imagery into her speech and to show how there are all kinds of awful events going on in the world and nobody deserves to go through something as horrifying and as terrible as these events including the Virginia Tech shooting.
