Statement of Purpose
I am determined to pursue a PhD in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences with an emphasis on formulation and development of new drug entities. During pharmaceutics lab sessions in my second year as an undergraduate, I was engaged in making different drug formulations (Pharmaceutics). It was here I began to wonder how these dosage forms were being formulated to achieve optimum therapeutic response which led me to the goal of pharmaceutical technology.
During my B.pharm in Pune University, my appetite for pharmaceutics led me to pursue a master's in pharmaceutics. I worked hard, studying various Novel drug delivery systems such as Micro-particulate systems, chrono-modulated drug delivery systems, various polymeric dosage forms, etc. Not to negate this hard work, I couldn't be more proud of what I accomplished in my research on the "Development and evaluation of Floating microspheres of Pioglitazone hydrochloride" and developed new dosage form for the delivery of the anti-diabetic drug. As compared to conventional dosage form (tablet) of
Pioglitazone hydrochloride, this new dosage form prolongs the delivery of drug and retains it for nearly
12 hours in the stomach region, where maximum release of the drug is possible. My mark on the field has just begun
My interests grew as I viewed at close quarters current developments in pharmaceutics, in particular as it relates to formulation and development of drug molecules. It is marvellous to see how a molecule, inefficacious in conventional formulations, can do wonders when used in a Novel Drug Delivery System like 'Microparticles'. I feel the need to delve more deeply into my Master's research topic of
Microparticles and do more research into areas of Micro/nanotechnology, to study in detail the development of Micro/nanoparticles as carriers to deliver aniticancer agents, genes, vaccines, etc.
I have published 2 research papers, 1 other is accepted for publication and another one under revision, which gave me intense experience of the overall procedure for publication from designing experiments

Inspiration and enthusiasm well up in me when I am at work; I have gained professional experience by working for about 1year as Trainee chemist (F&D) at Zest Pharma and about 6 months as Chemist
(F&D) at Aristo Pharma in India. During this period I become completely familiar with Preformulation studies, Formulation development and standardization of different oral solid dosage forms.
Of course now I want to move forward ahead toward a Ph.D. I chose National University of Singapore
(NUS) because of the exceptional research projects in the field of Pharmaceutics. I am mostly intrigued by Dr. Chan's project concerning study of different techniques of microencapsulation and also Dr. Liew's projects on Granulation and pelletization techniques. I am confident of making an original contribution to the field of Pharmaceutics and also because the facilities at NUS seem to foster a healthy research environment as I could gather from the brochure of your department. Also NUS provides a very thorough and effective foundation for work in the Industrial/Organizational field. I intend to pursue a career in the area of research and development for private industry; therefore NUS's high placement rate, along with all above qualities, is imperative to me and my career. It is my intention to make a significant contribution to my chosen field and I look forward to our relationship with great eagerness.

living in China with my parents. I tore open the box and inside I found a gift that was to change my life. My mother and father, knowing I was a curious child, bought me a chemistry toy set. From that moment on, I became fascinated by the workings of science. My subsequent interest in the composition of drugs, their chemical and physical properties began to galvanize my desire to pursue a career in pharmacy. In addition, my desire to alleviate the suffering of people through healthcare compels me to seek a profession where my work can be applied successfully on a broader scale. As such, through my education, research, professional, and volunteer experiences I have been able to identify and develop the skills necessary to achieve my goal of being a successful aspiring pharmacist. Before I could fully commit to studying the sciences and more specifically pharmacy, I wanted to get valuable hands-on experience. During my senior year in high school, I participated in a volunteer program at the UCSF. At UCSF I had the opportunity to interact with staff pharmacists, enabling me to gain a valuable in look at a hospital pharmacy. Later, I also participated in a selective mentorship program at Kaiser Permanente, where I had the unique opportunity to shadow and learn from the pharmacist-in-charge. Here I observed how the resident pharmacists assisted patients, interacted with the hospital administration, and worked with pharmaceutical vendors on a daily basis. Through these experiences I knew I wanted to explore the field of pharmacy further and so I decided to pursue biochemistry as an undergraduate. At UCSD my love and enthusiasm for the sciences was immediately reflected by my dedication to my college courses. Through my academic background I developed the qualities that are essential for a pharmacy student. Moreover, I also sought to…

Pharmacy is my passionate field where the scope for learning is vast as it deals with science of drugs. I developed a deep-seated love towards the discipline of pharmacy while I was an undergraduate student in pharmacy. During my middle school days, my grandfather played a crucial role in my decision to choose pharmacy as my undergraduate major. While he was registrar of the state Pharmacy Council, I often used to follow him to his work and read the invention patents of the drugs generated by several drug developers and scientists. Along these lines, I have also developed sincere passion for biology as a part of my middle and high school curricula. This inculcated tremendous passion and zeal in me to join the pharmacy school. I successfully got admission in Bachelors of Pharmacy at the JSS College of Pharmacy, one of the most top three reputed and prestigious pharmacy institutions in India. Academically, I was at my best throughout my pharmacy undergraduate training and maintained consistency. As a result of that, I came out among the top 10% of the class. I had excellent interactions and intellectual exchanges with my peers and faculty members that helped me acquire excellent organizational skills, healthy interpersonal relationships, and sense of responsibility and commitment to work. Being on the district cricket team and winning trophies in athletic competitions have made me a team player. Memorable…

    My Future Career

    • 836 Words
    • 4 Pages

My long-term goal is to have a career in pharmacy. I want to pursue a career in pharmacy because pharmacists play an important role in society which I want to be a part of. Most people think pharmacists only hand out prescriptions, but they do so much more, especially educating patients about their medications. This education includes identifying dosage, listing possible side effects, and communicating proper usage of the medication, which is important to the patient’s health and well being. Good pharmacists are not just ”good with people”, they also care about their patients. I love working directly with people. I am very much a “people person” and need to have a career where I interact with others. I also naturally care about other people very much, which would allow patients to feel comfortable talking to me about their medication. Another reason I want to become a pharmacist is I have always wanted a career in healthcare. I looked into all possible healthcare careers and decided on pharmacy due to my passion for chemistry. I love chemistry because it is literally everywhere around us. I also find reactions between chemicals very interesting. It amazes me how combining a group of chemicals together can lead to a new and different compound. I am eager to learn more about the chemical composition of medications that cure everyday and severe illnesses.…
