In this assessment I am going to discuss the roles, qualities, and characteristics that make a good sports Leader. First I’m going to talk about four roles; Motivator, Friend, Role Model, and Manager.
Motivator - Maintain the motivation of all the athletes the whole year round.
A leader will have to be able to motivate their athlete(s), if a team is not motivated they will not push themselves to be the best or win. Motivation is used to help someone improve, a player will get better the more someone takes an interest in them.

If a captain shows that he knows the rules of the sport his team mates will, learner quicker and decide to learn them himself.
Knowledge of sport laws - A captain must know the laws of their sport, so they abide by them and leads by example. When John terry shows that he knows the laws of the game, and does not do anything silly so he gets punished. His players will take notice of this and they will not misbehave either.
Now I will discuss John Terry’s characteristics that make him a good sports leader.
Good Appearance – A good sports leader must present himself well, otherwise an athlete will not look up to him as a model. If a leader cannot get the attention of his team their performance will not be very good. An athlete’s role model will not just be based on their ability to play/coach their sport, but to also have a good appearance.
Confidence – A coach must have confidence, confidence in the way he teaches his athletes and the way his team performs. This will give their athletes confidence in themselves, making them believe that they can win or get a personal best.
