Something That Has Impacted My Life
We all endure hard times in life, and whether it is a positive or negative outcome, these times change our route in life. But sometimes, we come across someone who changes our lives for the better. They lift you up from the lowest points in your life, and point you in the right direction. If we never ran into these people that alter our lives, our lives would be very different today. Everybody has someone who has impacted their life in some sort of way, for better or worse. For some people, this person may be a parent, family member, or friend. Although, in many cases some individuals find this great impact through religion, as I did. I was only eleven years old at the time, so I would have had to wait until I became an adult to live my own retreat. Soon enough, the ACTS movement spread like a disease all over the place. They made a college Acts, and eventually wanted younger kids to experience it, so now there is a teen Acts. You have to be sixteen or older for mature reasons. I lived mine at the age of 15 because I was mature enough and too eager to wait another year. When I first got there, I didn’t know what to expect. I had so many ideas of what could possibly go on, but had no clue. What got me even more curious to do my own retreat was the fact that nobody could tell you what went on in there. I learned this soon after walking into my retreat, we were presented with the “River Rule”. This rule states that whatever happens on one side of the

When I was five, I met a man that would change my life forever. The first time I saw him, he was laying tile at our house which at the time was under construction. I watched as he very eloquently laid mortar and tile in a way that I had never seen before. Soon he sat down with my dad and I and asked us if we would like to come down to his cabin with him and go fishing. I jumped at the opportunity and in two weeks we were driving from Austin to Corpus Christi. I did not know it then, but this man, Melvin Miller would end up defining almost all of the principles I have today. This first time, I learned about the water and protecting the environment, but I also learned the difference between right and wrong but more importantly how to work hard. It may sound like these trips to this cabin are difficult or stressful but they are quite the opposite. Infact, when I come back from a trip to the cabin, I am more relaxed than ever and ready to work hard.…
