Keeping the type of plant per experiment, size of beaker and emission of light constant, how does changing the concentration of carbon dioxide affect the rate photosynthesis in plants?
Introduction:
Photosynthesis is the process through which plants, algae, and some bacteria convert light energy into chemical energy from carbon dioxide and water, producing glucose and oxygen. This process is extremely vital as it the major source of nutrition for all living things on Earth, and fuel organisms’ activities.
The equation of photosynthesis is as follows: 6CO2 + 6H2O C6H12O6 + 6O2
Background:
The Hydrilla verticillita is a considered a very oppurtunistic organism as it has been found at various locations, having taken over waters.

4 glass beakers
2. 4 Oxygen sensors
3. 4 Gas sampling bottles
4. 50g Hydrilla
5. 50g Cabomba
6. Hydrogen carbonate
7. Distilled Water
8. Tap Water
9. 4 lamps
10. Lab Quest
11. Timer
Method
Preparing Hydrogen Carbonate solution (10% concentration)
1) Pour 100ml of distilled water into a beaker
2) Add 10g of NaHCO3 and stir until dissolved
Preparing plant species
1) Using a measuring balance, measure 30g of hydrilla and set aside
2) Repeat step 1 with cabomba
Set-up
1) Place 4 large beakers in a row, and fill each with 70 ml tap water
2) Insert a gas sampling bottle into each water-filled beaker
3) Place one lamp each, 10 cm away from the beakers
4) Connect 4 oxygen sensors to the lab quest, and keep on stand by

Once complete, proceed with experiment as follows,
1) Pour 100ml distilled water into each gas sampling bottle
2) Add 2g of hydrilla into each gas sampling bottle
3) Allow to breathe for 1.5 minutes
4) Close each gas sampling bottle with the oxygen sensor
5) Calculate oxygen emission for 300 seconds, with a reading every 10 seconds
6) Repeat experiment 3 times for more accurate results
7) Once complete, using a syringe, add 2cm3 of the NaHCO3 solution to each gas sampling bottle
8) Allow to breathe for 1.5
