Should The Government Legalize Marijuana
State government should be the ones that get to decide if their people should have the right to marijuana consumption. All reasons, aside, according to Article 1 in the Constitution, "All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives." The actual consumption of marijuana would be considered as being a legislative power and it should be up to the state government to decide. Each state should have a say if their own state should be allowed to do anything ccording to the way that the state is ran. Article 6 in the constitution states that in criminal prosecutions, the prosecutor, has to follow up by speaking to an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed. If it happens in a state then that state should have rightful power to decide what to do with the "crime". And lastly, The 10th amendment states that powers that are not said to be prohibited belong to the states or to the people. It is the states job to decide what laws to make without going against the constituion. …show more content…
If the federal government was to legalize or not legalize marijuana then every state would have to go with the new rules and had to live a life of legal weed or full prohibition. Whereas, if some scountries allowed it and some did not, the people would be able to leave to where they agree with the law. Everyone has different views to it and even having a voting system it is not always possible for the people to get what they want. It would be a lot harder if we had to unite all the states as one and make one rule of legal or illegal for all

    In society today, the debate to legalize weed or not is a very prominent and controversial issue. Even though there are a lot of positive and negative effects to smoking weed, I personally believe that there should be a law passed, that allows people over the age of 21 to smoke. Marijuana, also called Cannabis is a natural plant that contains a chemical called Delta-9-tetrahydracannibal, which is known as THC.     On January 2nd 2014, the Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) party’s president Michael Bladerstone called for a referendum on whether Australia should legalise the sale and consumption of marijuana, also known as cannabis. This came into action following Colorado’s decision to legalise the distribution and use of this particular drug. The HEMP party is pushing for the legalisation of marijuana for personal and medical use. I believe that marijuana should be made legal to the Australian public due to its extensive medical benefits, the fact that it is a lot safer than alcohol and for the economic benefits that it would bring to our Government.Marijuana has been used as a medicine for thousands of years in countries all over the world. Medical cannabis is used to increase the appetite in patients with HIV, AIDS and cancer, to reduce nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy, to reduce the symptoms of chronic pain, to help relieve spasticity in Multiple Sclerosis and Tourette’s and to stop seizures caused by Epilepsy.The Herald Sun undertook and investigation that found that up to 10 Victorian children, some as young as three, are taking daily doses of medical cannabis and in some cases it is being administered by teachers as desperate parents turn their backs on ineffective pharmaceutical drugs.On the 12th of January the Herald Sun also published an article about an eight year old girl called Tara O’Connell who suffered from Epilepsy and was having up to 60 seizures a day. This little girl could no longer walk or talk and was given only months to live. That was until her mother Cheri started giving her doses of liquid cannabis. One year on, she is now a bubbly eight-year old who no longer needs a wheelchair to get around. The only side effects that she experienced were an increase in appetite and fatigue.
