Short Term Academic Goals Essay
1. What are your short term (say 5 years) academic goals?
I’d say one of my short term academic goal would be to graduate high school in the “Top Ten” of my class. The next thing I would do would be to go college, and earn a B.S. either in health science or psychology with an emphasis in a physician’s assistant or a program designed for aspiring physician assistants. It depends on the college I would attend. I would then apply to a graduate school where I would receive a Master’s degree, learn how to care for patients, and then take the certification test to become a physician’s assistant.
2. What are your long term (say 10 years) academic goals?
In ten years I plan to be out of college, and working officially as a physician assistant. I may

I was born with three chambers of a heart and I was always in hospitals and doctors’ offices and getting my blood drawn. I eventually had open-heart surgery when I was three. Nonetheless, at almost every doctor’s visit, I would always have at least two doctors come in and listen to my heartbeat expecting a murmur or an odd rhythm. Everyone in that office would tell me how lucky I am to not have an oxygen tank or have restrictions or that I am not mentally handicapped. Needless to say, I am truly lucky to be in the condition that I am in now. But I want to help those kids and families that are going through scary life threatening surgeries and life altering experiences. Thinking about the other children made me narrow my focus into having a career in the medical field.
Another influence that motivated me to become a physician’s assistant was the care that I received when I was in the hospital about two years ago. I had terrible headaches, I went into my family doctor and they sent me to the hospital, thinking that it was a stroke. I met at least ten doctors and I was sent off every scan possible. Out of all those doctors, my physician’s assistant was more supportive than anyone else and he knew more than anyone

An ongoing controversial topic related to the Physician Assistant position is that people do not recognize PA’s as being ‘real’ doctors. It is true that physicians do have more authority, but it does not mean that they’re always more knowledgeable. A PA that’ve been in the field for 10 years will understand the practice better than an upcoming physician in clinical…

After high school in not sure what exactly what I want to do, but I have two colleges in mind. My first choice is Berks Technical Institute, where I would study to be a medical assistant. One reason why I’m debating on that profession is because not everyone is looking for a medical assistant, and I don’t want to study something if its going to turn out pointless. My plan B will be, the arts institute of Philadelphia, where I would like to study culinary arts, I have a serious passion for cooking and baking. My plan C will be getting a job with my uncle if any of this does not go as planned. Medical assistants work with physicians, mainly in outpatient care facilities, such as medical offices and clinics. If I were to go into that field my day would consist of Answering telephones, Updating and filing patient medical records, Coding and filling out insurance forms, Scheduling appointments and Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services. Starting pay right out of college for medical assistants would be $10.14 an hour. Additional education is not mandatory but would also be nice to move up to a registered nurse, which they get paid a better wage. Some obstacles I would have to over come to pursue my dreams into going into this profession would be, being more social with others, I will over come these obstacles slowly because I am a very closed and shy person. Also, if my plans do not work of for college as I stated earlier, I will work in the construction field as a back up plan. I came to this decision when I took a course back in the 10th grade for home decorating, and I loved it although I had to drop it off my schedule because I was short a couple of credits. My day would start off by making a couple of phone calls to find out when shipments are coming in such as power tools, drywall…

As a child growing up I think I always wanted to work in the medical field, seeing my mother as a LPN. I also have always had a natural interest in the medical field because I like to watch a lot of ER and hospital shows. At first I didn’t really know what health career I wanted to pursue. I just knew that I liked being in the healthcare class and learning about the different health science careers and what they do. I think a medical office administration assistant would be a very good career for me because I am very helpful and can always be counted on when people need me. This is not my only career choice, it’s just the first I want to pursue. One year after graduation I will hopefully have my medical assisting certificate or at least be working on getting it. Around my five year mark I want to try to get a degree from a nursing school and become licensed as a registered nurse. After that I will try to specialize in pediatrics, so I can be a pediatric nurse. In ten years, I want to get my nurse practitioners license, so that I could work directly with a pediatrician.…
