Short Story: Nirvana
Nirvana. Lorelai didn't know if she could handle another damn Nirvana song, it was driving her up the fucking wall at this point. Standing at the bottom of her stairs, she called up. "I'm gonna come up there and throw that damn thing out the window if you don't stop!" Did her son hear her? Most likely. Did he listen? Not a chance in hell. She mumbled some shit about her ex-husband while walking back towards the kitchen. It was Colin who had bought the The Beats Pill speaker and Lorelai was almost certain he did it just to annoy her — their son was a brat and he seemed to dislike Lorelai the most, so it was no surprised that he blasted the thing just to irritate her. She was surrounded by asshole men.

Five minutes later and the music was

I seen your best buddy on my way home today. Smoking right on the corner over there, and you better not be apart of that." She tried sound stern, but not even she could take herself seriously. "I smoke daily, ma. What are you gonna do about it?" Was he joking or being serious? Lorelai was about to ask when she heard the district roar of a Harley engine coming down the street. "God damn it, your dads here. Get your crap ready." James began to stuff clothing into his backpack as Lorelai turned to leave. Colin was already at the door before she even reached the bottom step — he was standing on the porch but he didn't dare enter the house. "Hey, Lor." he said once he seen Lorelai come into view. He was smirking and she could already tell he was going for …show more content…
She was simply too used to having loud boys around her house — as much as she denied it, Lorelai actually did love the chaos they created. She would forever deny it, but she even liked when Colin and his rowdy MC pals would spend the day hanging out. She poured her second glass of wine and then retrieved her phone from the kitchen table — she then sauntered over to the sofa and sat down. For a long moment, she scrolled through her phone and then landed on Kitty. Lorelai had not spoken to her sister in awhile and so she quickly pushed the text button and typed in a message. /what are you up too?/ She pressed send and then set her phone down on the

The Dharma Bums really is a book of its time, capturing the 1960's beat culture perfectly. Kerouac tells a very personal story in his distinctive compelling style and it is easy to see there is much basis in truth here. It is a largely auto-biographical tale, with Kerouac and the 'hero' one and the same and the revelations of his travels with a rucksack and a Zen zealot friend are so easy to read and difficult to forget. The book is filled with mood and some of language used is more poetry than novel. You can easily re-read this a number of time to pick up the nuances and quality writing. A first class atmospheric read of a man's search for himself at a time when many people were trying to do exactly the same, especially in the California locations…

While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

“Ugh!”, he grunts from how large the suitcase is. “Will you be able to carry that, Scottie?” she says, her face, worn from time, twists with concern for her son. “Of course”, he laughs. “Okay, if you’re sure.” She says as she opens the metal gate to the front yard. They slowly walk through the cracked pathway until they reach the steps to the porch. Beatrice opens the sturdy door with her keys. “Honey, I’m home!” Scottie yells into the empty living room. “Must you do that every time you come inside the house?” She says fondly. “Of course, I must.” He says as if she should already have known the answer. While they were talking, Alice and Jake, Scottie’s younger siblings, heard his announcement and excitedly ran out of their room and down the beige stairs. “Stop making all that racket!” she admonishes her children. “SCOTTIE!” they yell out enthusiastically. “You’re home!” Alice states, full of wonder that her big older brother is finally back where he belongs. “Well, it’s obvious that I’m home unless I’m an imposer who’s secretly an alien”, He jokes, winking at Alice. “I definitely didn’t miss your humor,” Jake lightheartedly says. “Oh, come on, I tell the best jokes”, Scottie says smiling. “Yeah right, in your dreams”, Jake jokingly teases. “Leave your brother alone for right now. He had a long trip and he’s probably exhausted.” Beatrice gently tells to her…

Armin’s mother drove us to Chili’s, as she normally did because Chili’s was our hang out at the time, and dropped us off at the front door. We were there a little early because Armin did not want his mother to see his girlfriend. Armin did not tell his mother that he had a girlfriend because he did not know how she would respond to it. Armin, Jordan, and I walked in the front door. It was packed as it usually is on a Saturday night. All the tables were filled with people laughing and carrying on. The waitress then walked up to us with a fake cheesy smile…

Lynne’s day had started at 7:00 this morning with a meeting with the disgruntled store manager of location number two—and things hadn’t slowed down since. Her “to-do” list was already full, but she had barely had time to glance at it. She was too busy with her “other stuff” (as she liked to call it)—things that kept her from being able to focus on what she really should be doing in her role at Bella’s. “Tough day, huh,” said Illa. Lynne and Illa, the two key players in the management of Bella’s, were meeting for drinks after work, like they had done every other Thursday (her ex husband’s night with her kids) for the past twelve years, to discuss business and life. These gettogethers used to start around 5:30. Lynne glanced at her watch as she handed the wine list back to the waitress. It was 9:25. “It’ll get better,” said Illa. “Illa, it’s 9:30—and believe me, this is a regular thing now. It’s costing me a fortune in babysitting, my kids never see me anymore, and it’s just wearing me out. And you know as well as I do that it’s not going to get better; it’s going to keep getting worse. We’ve gone over and over this,” said Lynne. “We decided that we’ve got to do something. Let’s don’t start rehashing or questioning our decision again now.” “You’re right. But you know I have reservations about whichever way we decide to go” said Illa. “I know, and I have concerns, too,” Lynne replied. “But you know things can’t stay as they are now. I keep telling you this, and I know you don’t want to hear it, but I can’t keep this up. I’ve got two full time jobs—three if you count my kids. I’m the general manager AND the HR director—and not just the director—I handle ALL the HR issues. There aren’t enough hours in the day. Not to mention the fact that I’m simply not running the place the way I always have, the way it should be run, because I’m constantly having to play human resource manager. We have five…
