Sensory Adaptation Analysis
One of the sections in the chapter that really stuck out to me was sensory adaptation. I learn how the body adapts naturally to its environment thought the five senses. I have some friends that I know and they are not the cleanest people or the best groom but are good people. The first time I enter into their home I smell a very musty odor like a Pet. My first thought about them about people that they were dirty individual that did not have any home training. The more I when over I didn’t smell anything; I thought that they had done away with the smell. So my wife comes over one day with me and she couldn’t handle the smell after being there for an hour. The other section that grabs my attention was perceptual set. What is the expectation of a person to see or perceive something based on prior experience? I find myself see and also doing this quite often just with a lot of thing in my life. For example when I was young I hated tuna, could not stand it because of the smell. As a kid I associated bad smelling thing with have a horrible taste and nasty. So it was not until I was twenty two years old that I had first eat tuna and I love it. It just amazing to me how the brain can take past and present situation and compose a logical explanation to what can happen. I am now seeing the world a lot different now after reading this chapter. I’m now being more aware of my surrounding noticing thing about my wife or other people. Started to see that people are not weird or crazy just different and that ok. Our psychology makeup is made up a lot of different component. Some are influence by culture, race, geographic, but no matter what category you fall in the body will naturally adapt. I use to work in the recovery room when I was in the military and it amazing how baby can with stand a lot of thing adults
