Reunion: Alcoholic Beverage and Boy Charles Father
Reunion by John Cheeves:
1: Describe Charles and his father
Charles is a younger boy
Charles´ father is big and good-looking man. He smells of after shave, whiskey, shoe polish and woolens. He is boisterous.
(Jeg kan ikke finde flere facts, som beskriver de 2 personer)

2: Characterize Charles and his father.
I do not know how old Charles is, but he must be about 17 years or about that age.
The reason I think he must be about that age is, that he is travelling by train alone to New York. The waiter is not sure, if he is allowed to drink alcohol.
I think Charles is a polite boy. He is not boisterous and impertinent like his father.
I know from the story - Charles has father, mother and grandmother.

Charles´ father is divorced from Charles´ mother three years ago.
We do not know his occupation, but I think he could be a international business man or at least a kind of Boss with a high income. He speaks several different languages. He has a secretary and he is a member of a kind of club, which could be for men with a higher social status, job or income.
I think Charles´ father is an alcoholic. Already, when he met Charles at the station, he smelled of whiskey. Later at the different restaurants, he seems to be more interested in the alcohol, than the food. Maybe that is the reason for his behavior, when he speaks to the waiters at the restaurants in a boisterous and impertinent way.
I do not think Charles´ father is not a good father. He did not use the short time, he had together with his son in a good way, if he wanted to see his son again.

Firstly, it has been argued that Charles was to blame for the long-term reasons such as wanting to make changes to religion, the power of the king and money. For example, Charles was partly to blame for money because he was trying to buy off the Scottish with £850 a day (which he could not afford) as a result from trying to make the Scottish Puritans. They rebelled and tried to attack. Charles was partly to blame for religious reasons like the one above, and some other reasons as well. He made William Laud, Archbishop of Canterbury and he tried to make England a Catholic country. Also, he married a woman named Henrietta Maria. She was a Catholic, so naturally Parliament were concerned that England was going to return to Catholicism. Charles was to blame because of power. He let his friends help him with important decisions and Power. People did not approve of some of the choices they made such as raising taxes.…

Charles 1st was reasonable to an extent, but not fully. Parliament was also to blame, but less so than Charles. Charles had a bad relationship with Parliament from the beginning, resulting in conflict between them. He believed in Divine Right of King, something that his father also believed in. Divine Right of King means that you were chosen to be King by God; therefore, God is on your side. Charles also shut down Parliament a number of times, and ruled without Parliament for a number of years. He took money from the people of his country without Parliament’s permission and he introduced taxes without Parliament’s permission. He started to make bigger changes to the Church, he gave the Scots a new Prayer book, and he made them use it. Parliament was greedy in the sense that when Charles did reopen Parliament that they asked for something in return, when if they did not act, their country would be punished. Parliament also demanded many things from Charles, and did not agree with his ministers. Charles also married a French Catholic Princess.…

Secondly, it could be said that Money was a problem for Charles. We know that this was true because Charles had left Parliament and went out by himself, so he had to find a new way of raising money. Charles started wars often and practically lost all of them and this was costing him money. However, he did find a new way of getting money by having a thing called ‘Ship Money’. The money was used to improve the navy ships, but only counties on the coast would pay the ‘Ship Money’. King Charles I in 1634 asked the counties on the coast for the money; however the navy didn’t really need improving! In 1635, the following year, Ship…

Charles got off to a bad start in 1625 when he married a French, catholic princess called Henrietta Maria. This was a very bad mistake as Charles and most of England were devoted members of the Church of England (Protestants). This was wrong as the princess could have changed the religion of England by persuading her husband and also she could have made her children catholic and they were heirs to the throne. One of the main religious reasons was that in 1633 Charles made William laud the archbishop of Canterbury. This was bad because he was a catholic and most of the people in England didn’t like that.…
