Responsibility Of Being A Responsible American Citizen
The privilege of being an American citizen comes with many responsibilities. Whether big or small, a citizen's contribution to America is extremely important. Each and every citizen makes some form of impact on this country. As a teenager, it is important to be informed with problems in the local community, respect local, federal, and state laws, and also defend the country when called upon.
It is common for teenagers to expect their parents to tell them what to do, whether it be to gather around the dinner table or who to vote for. Everybody has the freedom of different beliefs and opinions. As a responsible American, it is vital to be informed about what is happening in not only your community but also your country. Being well educated can help persuade the decision making process once able to vote. For example, there is a presidential election coming up. Respecting other people's rights and beliefs is another responsibility which we have as citizens of the United States. If no one respected others rights and their beliefs, it could potentially turn into a war between races leading us to a divided nation. Showing respect can be as simple as listening to what someone may have to say with an open mind. Just because one person believes something, does not mean that everybody else feels the same way nor does it mean that you must agree. Another way of respecting opinions and beliefs is by acknowledging the fact that America is built based upon freedom. Whether it is freedom to go to any restaurant, freedom of speech, or freedom of religion, freedom is a crucial point in American history.
