HOW TO GIVE A GOOD HAIRCUT! One of the hardest things about giving a good haircut is being able to understand what the client ultimately wants to achieve. If you don’t have a clear understanding, you could be digging yourself a hole by giving a “bad” haircut, but the wrong haircut. The first and most important step to giving a good haircut and maintain this customer for life is a thorough evaluation and consultation. This consists of a proper greeting when you seat your customer at your station. You want to be sure to listen to your client and ask questions. It’s better to ask and get a full understanding of what it is they want than just pretending you know what they are talking about, because nine times out of ten, they don’t really even know what it is they want. Be sure to put a neck strap on your client to ensure no hair goes down their shirt, and put a haircutting cape on them to protect their clothing. You want to examine their face shape, decide which haircut would best fit their face shape. You also want to identify whether or not your clients hair is thick or thin or course or fine. Texture and density both play a huge role in how the finished haircut will turn out. You want to establish an ultimate goal, which consists of how much hair you are going to be cutting off, what degree the cut is going to be, which could be a 90, 45, or 0 degree. A 90 degree haircut is when you comb the hair straight out at a 90 degree angle and cut. This cut is what most men get and little old shampoo set grandmas. The 45 degree angle, you comb out to 45 degrees and cut. This cut is going to achieve a layered bob look and gives a look of fullness with layers at the bottom near the neckline. The last is the 0 degree angle, which involves combing the hair straight down and cutting. This achieves a “bob” or for people with long hair we use this to trim. Layers are not achieved with a 0 degree angle. You want to decide with the client whether or not she wants bangs or
