According to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association “case studies are reports of case materials obtained with an individual, a group, a community, or an organization” (2013). Having a case study done can shed light on situations that may need further research. As well, as shedding light on problems that is in need of a solution. Although in most cases, case studies may consist of applicable characteristics of the subjects or participants. Confidentiality is very vital to the disclosure of their privacy. “Researchers are prohibited from disclosing personally information concerning the patients, individuals, organization clients, students, research participants, or other recipients of their services” (2013). However, a case study should be done for more in-depth information of an individual. According to Berger (2014), “case studies seem more accurate than more superficial measures, the assumptions and interpretations of the researcher are more likely to bias the results than they would a survey that includes hundreds of participants” (pg. 25). There are psychologists who use case studies as a research method for individuals, to learn behavioral and mental methods.
