It becomes very evident that most physical education teachers do not get the recognition that they deserve. Most schools are going into more “chair-based” learning where the child does not have an outlet to get out of the setting of the classroom and into the playground or even into the gym; which poses a problem for physical education teachers. Will there be a job for physical education teachers when I graduate? I believe that the answer to that question is yes, for the simple fact that medicine, fitness and wellness, and the entire aspect of physical activity cannot and will not be pushed over to the curb.

The idea of teachers developing and executing personal philosophies in the classroom never crossed my mind as a young student. Sitting in class, I assumed there was simply one way to teach, and that that was how all teachers taught. All students can remember their favorite teachers, lessons, projects, as well as their least favorites, but it is doubtful that all students realize how or why their teachers teach the way they do. Through the apprenticeship of observation and an understanding of several different teaching philosophies, teachers are able to mold the way they teach into a personal philosophy that is customized to their own specifications. While going through this process myself and exploring the various popular teaching philosophies, I believe that I have created a personal philosophy of teaching that matches the beliefs and styles of what I believe is good teaching.…

An occurring social issue in North America is the representation of the body in the media. Media integrates itself everywhere due to the change in technology. Anything that associates with the media makes its way into almost every facet of our lives. There are very few places where people are not bombarded with advertisements of any sort. Everyone has some type of exposure to media in one way or another. One major fixation the media has is body image, especially in North America, where there are always advertisements pertaining to society’s perception of body image. Not only is it in advertisements, but in magazines, fashion, etc. It is obvious one can find it in any medium of the media such as: television, internet, and magazines/newspapers. The media tends to focus more on the appearance of beauty in body image, instead of the overall realistic view of people. There is a natural sense of egoism in media. It conveys that there is only one ideal way of how the body should look, and does not acknowledge the diverse human beings in the everyday. It is always changing along with society. As media depicts the image of the body, it starts to influence people which can make drastic measures in the personal image a person has of themselves. However, it depends on the person’s choice on whether they will let it influence them or not. By establishing unattainable standards of beauty and bodily perfection, the media compels dissatisfaction to ordinary people and their perception to their own body image. Body image in the media results in giving a negative effect on people today because of its over-powering influence. It raises unrealistic social expectations, as it is only for self interest, and violates the codes of human nature; however, people have to rationalize themselves if they want to be subjected to this perception.…

My teaching philosophy is best described by using the following analogy. A building does not stand tall for years on end without a good foundation. Weather its building a house, an apartment, a church, or a skyscraper, the foundation is the most important element for the building to stand tall for years. If a child can start out with the right knowledge to live a physically active lifestyle they have more of a chance to continue to live while being physically active. Pouring the concrete on a foundation is a lot like being a physical educator, most people don’t see what all is happening during that foundation process but in the long run that building is standing tall because of the right person doing their part correctly.…
