Persuasive Letter Marijuana

Dear Senator Chambliss, My name is Joe Smoe, and I am currently attending a Political Science class at Georgia Perimeter College. I am writing to you in hopes of making a greatly needed change. Everyday, there are people of many ages that get arrest and prosecuted for the possession of marijuana. In my eyes, medicinal marijuana shouldn't have to be something that someone in any state should be arrested for. Exactly Twenty-one states have legalized medicinal marijuana already, so why not make it every state? My main reason for supporting the legalization of medicinal marijuana is that it helps people that deal with various health conditions on a day to day basis. The positive attributes that marijuana holds are pretty much countless.1 Marijuana has been proven to provide relief with Alzheimer’s disease, Anorexia,HIV/ AIDS, Arthritis, Cancer, Epilepsy, Migraines, Multiple Sclerosis, and many more. The prescription drugs that people use to get comfort or even cure those illnesses that I've listed above ,kills about 100,000 people worldwide each

Government study states that alcohol abuse kills about 75,000 Americans a year and can shorten a person's life by about 30 years. This study also states that consumption of alcohol is the third leading cause of death in the United states. An estimated 34,833 people died in 2001 from cirrhosis of the liver and cancer that is from excessive drinking. Also, 40,993 Americans died from car crashes related to alcohol that same year. In addition, tobacco use is the number one cause of preventable death in America. 3According to the CDC , tobacco causes 5 million deaths per year worldwide. Tobacco causes heart disease, cancer, and several lung diseases. Alcohol and tobacco kill people everyday. Yet it's something that is openly sold, purchased, and used. I have found myself asking, why are things that kill people on a daily basis legalized when something harmless is frowned

Throughout the last couple decades, one of the big issues that concern the government and the people are if marijuana should be distributed for medicinal purposes. This topic itself is brand new to the field of medicine and enough clinical trials have not been conducted to determine if the benefits of medical marijuana outweigh the risks marijuana present. Marijuana has always been known as a drug that is very harmful to the body, however new studies have shown that the chemicals within marijuana have many benefits. I believe marijuana should be legal for medicinal purposes.…

Marijuana is not as dangerous of a drug as some others that are available on the market for treating diseases. I personally know a friend whose family member was prescribed highly addictive painkillers after a back surgery. He then became addicted to them and was constantly having “accidents” that would end him up in the hospital just to get that feeling he was looking for, he even went as far as to crash his car into a tree resulting in his death. I believe that marijuana should become completely legal and be regulated just like tobacco. In other countries you can go to coffee shops and purchase marijuana and products that contain THC the chemical in marijuana that makes you feel high. I believe that like alcohol and tobacco marijuana can be one of those drugs that is easily taxed and generate a large amount of revenue for our government. Also it would save the government billions since many people less people would be going to jail for marijuana lessening the amount of money spent on these people in prison and the many other legal fees that come with prosecuting and detaining people. Many people in Colorado voted for the legalization of recreational marijuana because they said that about half of the money generated by it will go toward public schools (Legalizing). The effects of marijuana are less detrimental than alcohol in the temporary and lasting…

Medical marijuana should be legalized at the federal law for medical purposes because marijuana helps many people manage pain or illnesses. There is a lot of illnesses and pain that marijuana can treat. Marijuana does have side effects but what medication does not? Many people deal with the slight side effects and people who cannot deal with the side effects quit smoking marijuana. A problem in society is the federal law arresting people selling or smoking marijuana and giving them more years in prison than a rapist or serial killer. So what people are mostly scared of is the risk of arrest.…

In chapter one they ask, what is success? I believe success is keeping up good grades, living a happy life by maintaining a social life. Success is to be looked up to by many. Last but not least I believe success is to leave the world knowing you’ve made somebody’s life easier by your existence. They asked that question to many undergraduate students and some of the answers they gave were “Success is to get all A’s and B’s, being the first person in my family to earn a college degree, having a great social life…etc.” Those were only a few answers. The interviewers noticed that each response emphasized outer success. Then they interviewed actual college graduates, and there answers were a little different. They said “success is to focus on learning instead of just getting good grades, discover my personal values, learn more about the world I live In and more about myself, etc.” Those answers were similar but the college graduates focused on inner success.…

Whether or not medical marijuana should be legalized is a bigger controversy than it should be these days. There are advantages and disadvantages to medical marijuana being legalized, as there are pros and cons to any and everything in this world, but first I just want to add that in 1972, the US Congress placed marijuana in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act because they considered it to have "no accepted medical use." Since then, 20 of 50 US states and DC have legalized the medical use of marijuana (ProCon.org).…

The question, whether to legalize marijuana or not, is not an easy one to answer. There are many arguments on both sides of the debate. When weighing the pros and cons, it becomes slightly more evident that this drug has unjustly gotten a bad rap. It is easy to say that the drug does terrible things and site numerous examples, however, when compared to other drugs it is easy to see that marijuana is not quite as bad as many people say. Lots of research has been done on the effects of marijuana and other drugs and the results are fairly overwhelming. While there are negative effects, they hardly compare to the negative effects of many other drugs. There could be many benefits to the legalization of marijuana, some obvious, and some not so much.…

The debate over whether or not the risks and rewards of Medical Marijuana are worth it all comes down to a science. Research has shown that some strains of Medical Marijuana help cancer patients reduce the pain they receive from the tumorous cells, others help PTSD, Arthritis, Glaucoma, Alzheimer's and many other diseases. Medical Marijuana should also be studied and treated like every other type of medicine. Therefore, I believe Medical Marijuana should be legal nationwide.…

There is no solid reason for marijuana to be illegal. The risks and dangers of taking it are about the same as the risks of drinking alcohol of smoking tobacco, both which are legal for adults. Furthermore, making it illegal is ineffective at stopping minors from taking the drug, and makes the drug more dangerous because it cannot be regulated. Legal marijuana would be less dangerous because it would have to conform to safety standards, and have warnings to keep people informed, like cigarettes do. If society can change their views on alcohol, they can change their views on marijuana.…

First of all, it should be legalized for a medical purpose, indeed, marijuana, pot, grass or hashish used to be a medicine. Many doctors agree on the fact that it can reduce the pain of many sicknesses; it helps cancer patients to regain their appetite, relax muscles. Nether less, the legalization of marijuana as a medicine may tempt doctors to use it for another purpose. They can sell it and become another source to provide it in the black market. But, if the drug is legal, there will be no sense for them to sell it, what makes one more reason to legalize it. The most important reason to make it legal is it can help people who have AIDS. For example, in a testimonial a man name Greg Scott has AIDS. His weight dropped dramatically when he first taking drugs to prolong his life. But, he said smoking marijuana helped him alleviate the drugs side effects such as, nausea, loss of appetite and pain. So, I wonder why not legalize a drug which can help people with AIDS.…
