Personal Narrative: Becoming A Professional Nurse
started, interrupted by the plop of a body next to me, with his head propped on his hand, staring intensely at me. “I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. No siblings, but I had the best parents ever. I was their princess and they had these great dreams for me to be a nurse. They even named me after it, Althea means ‘with healing power’. However, these were not my dreams. I wanted to e a professional dancer.”
“So why aren’t you professional now?” Nick followed, reading the disappointment in my voice. “Who cares what your parents want, it’s your life, do what makes you happy!” I began shaking my head a few times and looked over at him.
“You don’t get it,” I started, not being able to bear looking at him if i were ever going to continue my sentence. “ they can’t want anything anymore. They were killed, by someone texting and driving. April first, 2007.” I finished wiping a teary eye with one hand, feeling a warm, stern hold on the other. I looked over to see Nick with a distraught look on his face. Embarrassed, I sat up and pulled away from his grasp on my hand. I started cleaning up, not being able to keep the bottle of beer out of my mouth until all that was left were sparse drops of alcohol dripping into my mouth at a 180° angle. No words, and no movement from Nic. I grabbed the cardboard containers and speed walked inside towards the lobby to throw the things away.
