Old Earth vs. New Earth
Old Earth vs. New Earth
Many Christian scholars are open to the belief in an old earth. One of these scholars is Colin Humphreys who believes that radioactive dating methods aren’t as accurate as most people think but they can still prove that we have a very old earth. Greg Koukl, is another Christian apologist, speaker, philosopher, and author who believes that the answer to the old earth/new earth lies in the heavens. The stars show light that takes millions of years to get to us. He argues that since were seeing light from the stars, because there millions of light years away, the earth must have been created millions of years ago. John Ankerberg argues that the seventh day of creation is thousands of years long as well as believing the third and sixth days of creation were longer than twenty four hours. “Everyone agrees that it has been at least thousands of years since the time of creation, yet the Bible declares that God rested on the seventh day after His six days of creation (Gen. 2:2-3). According to the book of Hebrews, God is still in His Sabbath rest from creation (4:3-5); hence, the seventh day has been at least six thousand years long, even on the shortest of all the chronologies of humankind (Ankerberg).” He believes the third day was longer than twenty four hours because God created plants and they fully matured, which takes longer than twenty four hours. The reason for his belief in the sixth day being longer is because of the many things God did on this day. He created Adam and Eve as well as creating thousands of animals who were all named by. All of these things would have been very hard to accomplish in the twelve hours of light there were. Many Christians also believe in a new earth. Christopher L. C. E. Witcombe is one of these Christians. He rejects the Carbon dating method for many different reasons. “The Earth 's magnetic field has been decreasing. This will increase the level of cosmic rays in the upper atmosphere, generate more C-14,

He then compares the very different beliefs of the shape of the earth in the Middle Ages with the ancient Greek ideas. Although the ancient Greeks were more accurate in their thinking, he later brings up the unfortunate fact that the Greek’s ideas were ignored and left out of the bible. This put scientific advancement more than a thousand years behind what it could have been. He continues…

    Geological Era Theory

The first theory is the gap theory (p 95-96). This theory states that between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2, Satan and a third of the angels have fallen. In Genesis 1:1, God has already created something and then right after it there is the gap where Satan destroys it after falling, and God is forced to recreate it which we see in Genesis 1:2. This also relates to Noah’s story and the flood in which God destroys evil and wicked. The next theory is the geological era theory (p 96-98). The geological era theory states that instead of six days of creation, it is actually six eras that span for an unspecified amount of time. This is due to the Hebrew word for day, Yom, is a very loose term in which can be used to communicate an undetermined span of time. The span of time is sometimes thought to be longer than just a day. The third theory, the literal theory, talks about how the most commonly accepted idea of creation is the six, twenty-four-hour-days (p 98-99). Richter suggests that behind this is a form of poetry in which the author is suggesting something behind the…

In the video entitled, “Earth is 6,000 Years Old”, Chemist John Pendleton describes different viewpoints from a creation and evolutionary standpoint when it comes to how old the earth really is and the supportive material behind their conclusions. These points are based off the bible in regards to Genesis and the creation of the earth, scientific points of view in regards to carbon dating, sedimentary dating, and evolution of mammals and mankind in this progression. The techniques also used in determining this data are described as well as the numerical data and some steps used in this configuration. The first pro that is seen is that according to Pendleton is from a biblical perspective dating began with the creation of earth in Genesis 1…

Recently, new speculation has shown that mother earth may in fact not be 4.5 billion years old, as has been taught in schools for many generations. However, young earth creationist believe that the world is only approximately six thousand years old. According to the Christian Bible, if we were to follow the chronology of many of its books including Genesis, Exodus, Galatians and 1 Kings, we would gather a general timeline of when God created the universe and the Earth. No where in the Bible does anyone give an exact date; however, we can get a very close estimate and rough explanation why the earth is not 4.5 billion years old. According to evidence, it is physically impossible.…

The Day Age Theory is a that is a theory that states that states that the six days of creation actually took longer periods of time that coincides with major evolutionary geological history. BIble believing creationist carry on to have a refutation of the Day Age theory for many reasons. In 2 Peter 3:8 it says, “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day,” and this verse is often misinterpreted but the simple answer is that Genesis was written one thousand years plus before 2 Peter. The numerical qualifier is very insistent of a twenty-four hour day because throughout the whole Old Testament the word “day” is used…

The overarching goal of the Christian church is to model a Kingdom lifestyle and in so doing facilitate a change in the world towards a lifestyle approved of God. That goal is accomplished by (1) being in the world, but not of the world, (2) being one and (3) using Kingdom methodology to achieve God’s objectives. But achieving the goal using that strategy is made difficult when it must be done in the midst of competing lifestyles. Especially when there is a desire to fit in rather than being ‘peculiar’.…

Scientists do not believe in the theory that the flood from the Bible was the cause of the ice age because they don’t think this provides enough evidence as to how it all began, but other people do believe that there is evidence onto how it all began and how it had happened. It may also be true that Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Seth, Noah and other persons named in Genesis 1-11 were indeed historical figures whose names have been preserved in the folklore of ancient Israel; and many scholars believe that the story of the great flood in Genesis 6-8 is based upon the actual occurrence of a major deluge in the ancient Middle East (c. 4000 B.C.). But it is doubtful that God created the world and mankind in the precise manner depicted in Genesis 1-2, that the fall of the human race took place exactly as described in Genesis 3, that the stories of Noah and the flood (Gn 6-9) and of the Tower of Babel (Gn 11) are literally true in all of their details, and so on. Were we to accept every detail of Genesis 1-11 as literally true, we should be committing ourselves to the view that man made his appearance on earth only about 120 hours after the world was created; that daylight existed before the sun came into being (Gn 1:3-5, 14-19); that the universe is surrounded by water (1:6-8); that the universe is no more than six or seven thousand years old (a figure arrived at by tracing the various genealogies found…

Each age of earth holds a different belief to how some individuals believe that the universe was really created. Some believe that the earth really was created in only 6 days, some believe that the earth was created in stages and some believe that life evolved from science. Although that are all different beliefs with some similarity traits, they are all Christians beliefs in the viewing of how the earth was created.…

    The Question of Creation

    • 921 Words
    • 4 Pages

There are some questions that form outside the church like, "Why do the planets orbit the sun?", or "Why is there life on earth?" - I believe there is an answer in the Bible for the scientists or other people that ask those kinds of questions. Now I'm sure it is common sense that everyone knows a good bit about the heavens and the earth and of the stars. Also about other ingredients such as; how many planets there are and their order, all the different trees, types of rocks, etc. So if an instructor were to take the "old world" opinion, he should be sure to do all his research thoroughly. If he is careless, then the wiser instructors will be put to shame. With my past experiences it is less stressful to say that you have no idea how old the earth is rather than to teach lies where you will dig yourself a hole.…

    (2) Biblical date of creation-(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Ussher)-James Ussher (sometimes spelled Usher) (4 January 1581 – 21 March 1656) was Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland between 1625–56. He was a prolific scholar, who most famously published a chronology that purported to establish the time and date of the creation as the night preceding Sunday, 23 October 4004 BC, according to the proleptic Julian calendar. Till today, history of world is being fitted after that, though it is well known that earth was created about 4.5 billions years ago and current human species is at least 1.5 million years old.…
