Observation of Child at Play
Observation of Child at Play
Time: 6:04-6:38
Location: School field/Playground
Child: Abigail, 72 months, girl
Description: light red hair and freckles all over her face, very outgoing, talkative, and youngest out of two girls, loves to socialize, in the 1st grade.
Observation:
I walked up to the park where Abigail and her team were practicing. She was laying on the grass picking up a flower. She walks over to her dad and gives it to him. The whistle blows and she gets up and runs to the practice field. She then begins to kick a ball and turns when she hears she dad tell her to get with everybody else. She then runs to the other players and proceeds to tickle the little boy next to her. She laughs as he does it back to her. She then walks over to her dad because he called her over. As he is talking to her, she begins to cry and shake her head. She walks back over to the team and starts kicking the ball in the drill like the rest of the kids. She ten starts to smile as she is kicking the ball down the field. She gets to the end of the field and kicks the ball in the goal. She jumps up and down. She then gets her ball out of the net and takes it to the middle of the field with her dad. As she is walking she starts to sing to herself. Another little boy comes over to her and they both walk and sing together. When they get to the middle Abigail is standing still. She is listening and not moving. After the coach (her dad) stops talking, she moves to the other side of the field by a cone. She stands in line and waits her turn. As she waits she is looking at the other kids and laughing. She turns and looks at another boy and he says something to her and she laughs again. She then turns back to the field and starts to kick the ball to the other cone. As she is running, she is looking down at the ball and not smiling. She looks focused and is running fast with the ball. When she reaches the other side, she picks up her ball and gets in line behind another boy. She

Finally, we stretched out. Mrs. Dennis reminded us of our teams and told us which teams were playing against each other. My team was undefeated even though none of us played club soccer. Today we played my good friend Calli’s team. I was on a roll today I had scored a goal and made the pass that allowed Jessie to score our second point. Alex (blue team) kicked it out of bounds so my teammate Kyle was about to throw the ball in. I stepped back to get open but as I stepped my ankle collapsed beneath me and I fell to the ground. I lay on the ground holding my ankle and a few people around me noticed and started to gather around me as tears started to stream down my cheeks. Mrs. Dennis saw the group of kids and rushed over to see what was going on. She pushed her way through the crowd to see me on the ground crying. She asked if anyone had seen what happened, nobody replied. Mrs. Dennis helped me to my feet and I explained what had happened as I limped across the field to the sideline. Mrs. Dennis checked out my ankle which had begun to swell and she decided to call an ambulance. By the time the ambulance arrived almost everybody in my gym period had come over to ask if I was ok but Mrs. Dennis had shooed them…

I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Trying her best to calm her down, since the child was throwing around her body while the…

Tommy is sitting on the floor with his toys around him. His teacher sits on the floor next to him and he begins to hand his teacher a series of toys. He is interested in the reaction of his teacher as he hands her his blocks, one by one. Tommy leans forward, grabs a block and hands it to his teacher. He watches her face and sort of drops his mouth open as he waits for her reaction. She then tells him the letter and color on the block. He nods his head forward and then reaches for another block and proceeds to pick up another block. After picking up 5 blocks and handing them to his teacher he then crawls across the floor to a toy car and pushes it for a moment. He looks up at his teacher to see what she is doing and pushes the car toward her. He smiles at her and she smiles back and says “Is that your car?” he smiles again and nods his head forward. Tommy is very interested in his teacher’s reaction to him. She continues to watch him even when he is interested in a toy or moving away from her. He does check to see if she is pay attention to him as he plays. His teacher starts picking up toys and organizing the room and he periodically goes over to her and becomes interested in what she is doing. Tommy seems very dependent on his teachers mood. In an evening spent at a local park, I observed two toddlers playing on the playground. Both toddlers were about the same size and height, and they were seemingly about two years of age. These two children stood out to me because though they seemed about the same age, their behavior on the playground was very different. As I observed, both subtle and large differences began to make themselves apparent.…
