Within my A level studies I have acquired many useful skills that will help me with my study at university, for example in my English language lessons I’ve learned the importance of doing independent research on ideas that will help me with my coursework and therefore allowing me to be organised, capable of managing my time and prioritising my workload. Learning these skills has helped me a lot not only in academic aspects but also socially as I am now capable of socialising with people that I don’t know well. Furthermore I have also learned to overcome stress and pressure during the period of filming my sequence which is essential for nursing as there will be challenges every day that I would have to be expected to overcome and therefore has lead me to become very committed and self-motivated in everything that I do.
Theology has allowed me to look at different points of views and perspectives in society which is a preparation for the real world, particularly with becoming a nurse as you will be expected to be open minded and non-judgemental when dealing with different people and their circumstances. Moreover theology has also really helped me develop a deeper understanding of the importance of helping others. Especially because when I see other people smiling and improving it reinforces that the efforts of providing support is extremely worthwhile. I will be very grateful for the opportunity to do this with the people and families that I will be working with as a mental health nurse. I have also worked with a 14yr old disabled girl who needed emotional support and help with integrating into the community. I did social activities with her such as: swimming, shopping, going to the park and introduced her to a youth club where I helped her make friends who made her feel accepted.
