We amazed you with our first set of seven things that you definitely didn’t know about FIFA in our part one article, and we have finally returned with part two to give you the full scoop! We know this association as the ultimate king in the world of soccer, but the juicy secrets of this association may shock even the biggest soccer fanatics. Read on to discover the top eight things that you definitely didn’t know about FIFA!

Number Eight: The FIFA World Cup

In 1928, the FIFA association, primarily in charge of regulating soccer standards, hosted their first international tournament. They were enticed by the incredible demand for international competitions for soccer outside of the Olympics, and the World Cup was born.

Number Four: Transformation of the Cup

When the World Cup trophy was first debuted, it was a statue of pure gold in the form of the Greek goddess of victory, Nike. The name, befitting the trophy’s design, was Victory. The trophy underwent a makeover in 1946, in order to honor the FIFA president. The name was then changed to the Jules Rimet Trophy. A new trophy was born in 1974, and is the one still in circulation today.

Number Three: A Winning Pattern

In the World Cup Tournament, the soccer team for the host nation always qualifies to play. Remarkably, many of the winning teams over the event’s history have been home teams. Six nations have won the cup when the tournament was hosted in their country, and all four tournaments held in South America awarded cups to South American teams.
