My Philosophy Of Special Education Essay
The purpose of Special Education is to meet the needs of students with exceptional learning needs and to ensure them equal education in the least restrictive environment (LRE). Students with special needs deserve and need to receive the same free, rigorous education that general education students receive with modifications and accommodations to meet their needs. This type of instruction should and will ensure that learning will occur, and that they will be prepared to be a contributing member of society to the best of their ability. Special education students are protected by The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). IDEA has been updated throughout the years into its present form, but was originally formed in the year of 1975 by Congress to guarantee that students with disabilities receive the education that they deserve, the same as any other student. I believe that learning can occur at differentiated levels no matter who the learner is. All students can and should be taught at their individual learning level. Teaching should take place with the understanding that every child is going to have diverse learning outcomes in relation to his/her specific disability. Differentiated

Every student, with and without disabilities, should have an equal opportunity to obtain a free public education. My goal as a special education teacher is to encourage, motivate and teach every student in hopes of him/her being able to learn at the highest ability of their capacity in the least restrictive environment. This quality, differentiated instruction will hopefully in turn prepare him/her for the individual role in which he/she will have in the world.
