My Learning Experience
I have many goals that I have set for myself over the course of my life. Most of these goals I have set for myself, I have achieved with hard work and dedication. One of my many goals I had set for myself before coming into the military was to further my education. I probably would have never made it through the first semester of college, lacking the proper discipline and being immature I decided to join the United States Air Force. I thought it was a good idea to get the Air Force to pay for my education and I would be able to see the world. Though I joined the Military to further my education it took my 10 long years to start on my goal. I would always put college off till next year or later. With the help of a couple of friends I decided to return to school this year and chose the University of Phoenix as my decision.
Despite all of the accolades and all the technical training I received from the military, I didn’t really feel that the transfer of learning would benefit me. Through out my career, there has always been someone physically there to explain the applications of my skill trade. I felt really challenged and not to mention scared knowing that I was going to learn how to meet all the course objectives via a virtual class room. I had enough trouble in grade school even though I was in a physical learning environment. I had my work cut out for me. The added pressure of having to get a degree within an allotted time in order to maintain my instruction in K9 School was ironic. It also placed me in an automatic learning style of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning is learning in which the consequences of behavior can lead to changes in the probability of its occurrence (Benjamin B. Lahey, 1998). Teaching future K9 Handlers the principles of conditioning involving classical conditioning and the types of learning is a taste of my day. Just knowing how the contingency square works in behavior modification was enough to help me get my foot

My decision to join the military in general I believe subconsciously started when my older brother returned from Army basic training. While my brother was a pretty smart guy he had never really been to apply himself nor did he have the drive to, but whatever had happened to him during army basic training had made a change in him; a change for the best. He came back and the transformation was evident in every single one of his actions and thoughts. He had a drive to accomplish all of his goals dreams and aspiration, not only that he had the discipline necessary to stay on his new found path. I went on to college in the fall fallowing his return from basic training not sure if these new traits and strength I saw in him would continue or disappear. When I returned home that fall after my first semester and talked to him and I saw the changes had stayed with him and grown even further. With all that he had used the tools he had been given to accomplish so much in already so little of time. All that stayed in my head, but it did not become relevant to me until my sophomore year of college. I realized that while I was…

However, my results did show me new things about myself I did not know. From these results, I have created some SMART goals to help achieve my ultimate goal.…

When I graduated high school in 2013 I attended a community college in Pennsylvania for a semester. My thought on college in high school were “I don’t really want to continue my education for another four years”. That was until my high school counselor called me to her office seeing that I didn’t apply for schools. She explained that I wouldn’t be able to get a good job or ever own a house without a college degree, so that fear pushed me into continuing my education. My parents were the same way they also told me “most jobs would hire a college graduate over a high school graduate”. That was the final push towards the path of…

My parents tried to get me to go to college after high school, but I was a stubborn eighteen year old boy who wanted to “see the world.” I thought I knew what was best and decided to join the Marines. I thought about the Navy because I had always been a good swimmer and loved the water. That was really not a very good basis to make a life changing decision. However, I excelled on all the tests and was told I qualified for the SEAL team. Everyone thought this was amazing and quite an opportunity. I did not know exactly how dangerous being a part of this team could be until after I was sent on my first mission. There were missions that were part of your duty, and you had to participate in these. Then there were secret missions and you had to volunteer for them. For a secret mission, you were given what the chance of surviving the mission would be and then you made up your mind. Only after you accepted and were on your way to execute…

Going to college has always been a goal to myself. Personally, it means more than expecting to get a good job with a high earning potential. It means the opportunity to develop myself as a person and become a valued member of society. It means, that as the oldest brother and first generation in my family with the possibility to attend college, setting an example for my younger siblings about how to shape your own path and break that mindset of “do what you have to do” and replacing it with one which says, “do something that makes you happy.”…

I feel the most important reasons for me to go to college is making my whole family proud of me and becoming a better role model for my daughter. After I graduated high school I made the decision to not go to college, and get straight to working. My family was disappointed that I made that decision. I went to work for my family’s business and thought that I would have a good and stable career for life. I know that once I get my degree that I will make them proud. My daughter is now 6 months old and hopefully she will realize it is easier to attend college earlier in life. I think that trying to attend college at the age of 31, is twice the struggle than going to college right after graduating high school. It is twice the struggle because you have to relearn the basic school concepts that you already have fresh in your…

When I was nine I moved to Newark, New Jersey from Ecuador to have a better life. The whole time I was in Newark my mother would always tell me to study hard and go to college because I can do anything I could in this country. At that age I had different plans and having a successful career wasn’t on my to do list. I joined the military at the age of 18 to explore the world and leave Newark, because it wasn’t a good place to live. After joining and going through training I did travel to different places around the world and college was still not on my priority list. You see everything different when your 18 and don’t have anyone to tell you what to do with your off time. I did everything fun that I can think of and decided that I would just retired in the military and not worry about school anymore.…

When I graduated high school I knew I was going to attend college. It wasn’t a question. It was instilled in me as a child that I would be the only one of my siblings to go to school. My brothers would be forced into the military. It was never a desire of mine to attend college. It was more like the expected next step. Needless to say my passion for school was null and void. I attribute my academic standing to this fact. Maybe if I'd thought about what I wanted to do with my life versus just going with what was expected I would've done a little better.…

Deciding to go continue my education and further learning after high school was one of the best decisions I’ve made only because it’s what will benefit my future living, financially and mentally as well. Attending school has taught me useful tips I’ll use for the rest of my life, whether its time management, not procrastinating with anything and pushing myself to the highest possible limit. At the end of the day college is not for everyone to attend, it isn’t something to not take seriously; it requires dedication, patience, social skills, etc. Although college is a privilege but I see it more as a necessity in life in order to expand your horizons and life’s possibilities.…

    Attend College

There are many reasons why I am attending college. However, I am only going to address my main motives. One reason why I have enrolled in college is the opportunity to further my knowledge. I believe that knowledge is the key to success. I say this because most career jobs in modern society request that you have at least a bachelor 's degree to get hired on at an entry level position. I reasonably believe the perspective of Corporate America is that an educated individual will function more efficiently than an uneducated one. Also, attending college will prepare me for a rewarding career in law enforcement. I plan on joining a federal law enforcement agency and the criteria states that personnel must posses a bachelor 's degree as a minimum. Getting the career in federal law enforcement means I will be able to support my family in the future. Supporting them with a source of income from a career I am passionate about and enjoy will make my family and I happy. For example my mother supported three children on her own and she loved what she did so that aided in the amount of happiness present inside our home.…
