Billiards, family of games played on rectangular tables twice as long as they are wide, with balls propelled by tapered, leather-tipped rods called cues. Lining the perimeter of the tables are rubber cushions from which the balls rebound. Tables range in size from 0.9 to 1.8 m (3 to 6 ft) wide and from 1.8 to 3.6 m (6 to 12 ft) long. The level table surface, called the bed, is most often made of slate and is covered with a finely woven fabric, usually green in color. A typical cue is 145 cm (57 in) long, weighs 538 g (19 oz), and has a tip diameter of 1.2 cm (0.5 in). Balls, once made of ivory, are now composed of a hard compound and range in size from about 5 cm (2 in) to 6 cm (2.4 in). The white ball that the player strikes with the tip of the cue is the cue ball. Other balls, which may be colored, are called object balls.

Two styles of play predominate. One requires tables with openings, called pockets, at the corners and at the midpoints of the long cushions. The other requires tables without openings. On a pocket table, the goal is to drive object balls into pockets with the cue ball. On a pocketless table, points are scored by caroming the cue ball off one ball into another, sometimes with cushion contact required of the cue ball. Carom games on pocketless tables predominate in continental Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Pocket games, which include pool, predominate in English-speaking countries.
The international governing body of billiards is the World Confederation of Billiard Sports, located in Basel, Switzerland. The ruling body of the sport in the United States is the Billiard Congress of America, with headquarters and a hall of fame in Iowa City, Iowa. In the United States billiards is one of the most popular participant

For this POW imagine a modified pool table in which the only pockets are those in the four corners. This POW will use a “bird’s eye view” or looking at the table from above all the time, with different parts and shapes of the table labeled. Next, imagine that the ball is hit from the lower left, in a diagonal direction that forms a 45 degree angle. Finally, let’s say that every time the ball hits a side of the table, it bounces off in a 45 degree angle, and stays that way until it hits one of the 4 pockets. The path of the ball will always depend on the shape and size of the table. Like with a square table, the ball will always go directly into the opposite corner pocket without bouncing at all.…

These missions include fighting aliens, repairing barricades and even steering the APC down a long tunnel while using the flippers to dodge obstacles. Visually the table looks great with an image or Ripley along with the Alien Queen adorning the background. Using one of the zoomed out views reveals that the table is set on the planet surface with various vehicles and buildings around it. When the “power is cut” during one of the modes the whole table has an eerie red glow, which looks brilliant. In addition to three flippers and numerous ramps the table also features an Alien hive mini playing field on the top right containing three eggs. Overall the Aliens Pinball table is one of our favorites in the set and truly a joy to…

    The Game of Wiffleball

The WIFFLE ball was designed to take the place of baseball, stickball and softball for boys and girls in back yards and city streets. It is made of a tough rubbery plastic – is light in weight and cannot be thrown or hit any great distance. The WIFFLE ball is also an excellent indoor ball. The WIFFLE ball is thrown like a baseball and will curve very easily. The minimum number of players required to play a game with the WIFFLEball is two – the pitcher and batter – one player per side. The maximum number of players that can complete are ten – five players to a side. If a full team is playing, each side will consist of a catcher, pitcher, double area fielder, triple area fielder and home run area fielder. Fielders cannot move from one area to another when a full team is playing. When more than two players are playing, captains for each side are picked and they choose their respective teams alternately. As in baseball, the game is played with one team at bat and one team in the field. The batting order of the team at bat shall be Pitcher, Catcher, Double Area player, Triple Area player and finally Home Run area player. The rules of play are similar to baseball, however there is no base running. Three outs to retire a side, per inning, nine innings per game. In case of a tie, additional innings are played. For a complete inning, both sides must bat. An out for the batter can be made in three ways: 1.The batter can strike out only if he/she swings at a pitched ball and does not foul tip the third strike. Foul tips count as a strike for the first two strikes only. A foul tip caught in back of the batters box does not count as an out. 2. Fly balls caught in fair or foul territory. 3. Ground balls caught while the ball is in motion, in fair territory. Bunting is not allowed and the batter cannot obtain a base on…

Each table was then given a little device to weigh the objects. We used the measurement of grams to determine each of the different balls mass. The one with the least amount of mass was the ping-pong ball. The one with the most amount of mass was the steely. Afterwards, we got large rulers and measured the distance from the table to the floor. For our table the height was 68.5 centimeters.…

Setting aside the book, I closed my eyes and simply sat there letting the ending to the story sink in.…
