Modern Day Learner
“Saydu, education is the key of success in our society,” “I do not want you to end up living under your sister’s basement or going to work at a place that the boss does not treat you right.” “Yeah, I know what you mean Dad.”
Olando is a guy who has always hustled throughout her life. He’s a forty-something year old father of two, who just likes to share stories about his past and how lessons that were taught to him led him to be the man he is now.
For the past 20 years my father has held the same job – waking up each morning to go to work at 7 a.m. without complaint. I try to do the same thing when I wake up early to go to school. Although school can be stressful, I try to remember that it will help me in the future and without it I will not succeed in the world we live in today.
One thing to admire about him is how he inspires young people to pursue a career and to take advantage of going to school and getting an education. My father never turns anyone down who needs guidance and he remains positive throughout all the anxiety he has. Without his presence, I do not know if I would even have a plan to go to college.
Wherever I go to college in a couple of years of know, I already know there will be new obstacles to tackle but if I use the methods and lessons that I have learned from my father, I will dominate any challenge that I face. Whenever it seems like everything is falling apart, I’ll push myself harder and tell myself what he told me “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.”

I hate waking up early in the morning, especially during my summer break. My uncle believes hard work will take anybody a long ways in life that is why he owns his own landscaping business. Since my 15th birthday, I have had the privilege to get up early during the week to help clear weeds and trees from areas for other people to fill the vacant areas with what they would like. The process of clearing a couple of acres is hard work that could last all day or stretch to more than one day, it is not for someone who is not a fan of the heat.…
