MM207: Statistics
Prof: Traci Reed

Unit 2: Unit 2: Measurement in Statistics - Discussion
Topics- Discussion:
This discussion requires you to use the web-based statistical software that we will be using in this course: Stat-Crunch.
Use Stat-Crunch (found under Learning Resources on the course home page) to access any data set associated with the textbook. An explanation of the data sets is in Doc Sharing. After deciding on a particular data set, answer the following questions. Note: Read through your classmates’ posts before you answer – as much as possible, no duplicates please)
a. Name of dataset
b. What does each observation (row) in the dataset represent?
c. Give the name of one qualitative variable and one quantitative variable from the data set. Note: Your dataset may not have both types.
d. Choose one of the variables in your dataset and classify it according to the levels of measurement. Explain how you know.
e. Can you identify any systematic errors that might have affected your data?
When you post your response posts, feel free to make corrections to your classmates’ posts, or ask them questions about errors or biases that may appear in their data. Remember to incorporate the concept of “measurement” from the reading.
In this week’s discussion, you will interact with your classmates on the course content. Remember that your goal for discussion assignments is three-fold: to get involved throughout the entire week to contribute in a way that adds to the discussion and moves it forward in an original fashion to use the course content to inform your posts and responses
Keep in mind that when you post, you may include references to the textbook and articles found online. The class is all about sharing knowledge, so use discussions as a way of creating a community resource for yourself and your classmates.
Be sure your post is grammatically correct, has been spell checked, and fully answers the
