Marijuana’s Controversy The controversy marijuana has had within the federal state, of whether or not it should be legalized throughout The United States has been an uphill battle for several years. Major concerns surrounding the legalization process are beginning to rise. These concerns include, effects on adolescents, financial disputes, and long term health problems. Due to the fact that half of the country has some form of legalization, it is inevitable that marijuana will be legal throughout the country. Marijuana is not being looked at as a harmful illegal drug, rather it is beginning to be looked at as helpful. Since the first state legalized cannabis, the rise in usage has gone up drastically. Some long-term effects include: decline in IQ, impaired thinking, addiction, financial difficulties and the list continues.(drugfreeworl.org). These effects are major problems because the people that depend on this drug and the people that do it and do not understand the consequences are ruining their lives. The effects list that I took these examples from is a helpful tool when doing research because these problems come straight from marijuana users and abusers and should educate those who know nothing about cannabis to get informed. Of course when you take the study of the negative side of marijuana you must also take the positive. With legalization spreading across the country this former illegal drug is saving lives. The first reason marijuana was looked at to be a legal drug was the positive effects it had on the ill. Some positive effects include: treatment of glaucoma, increase lung health, control epileptic seizures, and can stop the smoking of tobacco. Marijuana will never be looked at by all in a positive or negative way. There will always be people who see the good and those who see the bad. Although it is legal in half of the country there are still dangers when using this drug. If used properly and for the right reason it can have a positive outcome. Before writing this paper I was against the legalization because I had an understanding of the trouble you could get
