Leadership
The most important area in gauging the viability and long term success of an organization is leadership. There are a few ways to describe leadership but it’s simply the process by which an individual influences a group of individuals to work toward a shared goal. A leader possesses the skills to influence the group and maximize the skill set of each individual within the group. The four factors of leadership are leader, follower, communication, and situation. It’s also important to note that there are several distinct styles of leadership. Each style has its own set of principles and process which are defined by certain traits possessed by leaders who fall into that particular style of leadership.
A leader firmly understands the process of knowledge and skill. The knowledge is typically gained through experience and the skills are honed through his or her personal training. Leadership, being one of the integral pillars of any organization, will drive an organization to growth or sink it. The power of an effective leader is influence. That is why leadership deals with the interpersonal relationships within an organization more so than any structural processes. Leadership is learned and the process by which it is applied, in any given situation, are almost universal. Thus, it’s the attributes, traits, values, and character he or she possess that make that particular leader unique. If a leader doesn’t effectively direct the organization in accomplishing objectives then the chances for organizational success diminish, greatly.
A leader has to be deemed worthy of being followed by others. Therefore, a successful leader isn’t crowned solely on his own merit but that of his followers. The relationship between leader and follower isn’t one-sided. They both play a part as major factors of leadership. If a leader can’t inspire his followers, he will not succeed. It’s up to a leader to diagnose the attributes of each individual in a group and cater his approach to dealing

Everyone has probably played the game "Follow the Leader" back in elementary school. It is a game where the leader stands in front of the line. He or she can say or do anything, and her followers (standing in a straight line behind her) must repeat exactly the same thing he or she does or says. Whoever was picked to be the leader must have loved the experience because one had the freedom to do whatever they please, while others followed miserably or happily depending on what the leader is saying or doing. However, if one was the follower, one would wait anxiously to be the next chosen leader. At the same time, one must somehow express his or her self in a fashion that will make them stand out from the rest of the students. Whether he or she is perfectly imitating the leader or behaving really respectfully of others. Nonetheless, who determines who should be the leader? What kind of characteristics must a leader possessed? What makes a great leader (Robbins, 2005)? Is there only one kind leadership? These questions will be answered as you continue to read on. In addition, you will come across case studies, real life experiences, and my own observation on how leaders in my work setting exhibit leadership behavior and how followers respond to it.…

The good leaders have that vision to see the future to avoid the fear of unknown or unknowable. Gary Yukl defines leadership as “the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how to do it, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish shared objectives.” (Rowe & Guerrero, 2011) Moreover, the management tries to perfect the current processes or procedures to fulfill the overall objective of the organization. However, leadership is based on sharing the collective knowledge and influencing a group of people to look at different alternatives to solve a problem.…
