INTRODUCTION: A FAMILY NAME ACCORDING OXFORD
Advanced Learner’s Dictionary “a group of consisting of one or two parents and children”. Also a family name “is the part of your name that shows which family you belong to”. Torukro is the son of Late Pa Dembade Oyateigha, and he is also one of the grand sons of Pa Oyateigha , the ancestral father of Oyateigha quarters of Ojobo Town in Burutu Local Government Area Delta State of Nigeria.
Torukro, the umbrella name or the family name which name all children, grand-children, great grand-children and great- great grand-children are bearing as members of this noble family. The family tree of Pa. Torukro is very tall and long as many children of Torukro are bearing this name-Torukro.
Pa. Torukro’s children were eighteen (18) from the family history, as recorded by Late Pa. Torukro, about fifteen (15) of these children gave birth to so many children, which are the grand and the great grand-children of Late Pa. Torukro. The children of Pa. Torukro’s daughters cannot bear the name of Late Pa. Torukro.
THE ORIGIN OF THE PA TORUKRO AS A FAMILY NAME
As he was born in the 18th century, he was called Torukro-meaning Braveness or Boldness. He was fearless and bold in any endeavour. It was because of his name, he was always leading his pair-group or Age mates. In the family sector and even community or village at large, he was counted among ruling leaders of the community. Apart from Pa. Torukro’s self-struggle for a renowned position in the society, it was Late Pa. Zaria Torukro , the second eldest son that promoted the family name greatly. As he had his early Education in a Native Authority school at Ojobo,
