Compulsory Voting Essay Americans are very individualistic, they never get to see the big picture about elections. When the country was founded only caucasians with properties could vote, nowadays from women to immigrants can vote. Voting is determined by federal and state law. Through voting citizens can choose the next leaders for their government, which may affect sectors like educations, jobs, the economy etc. Voting should not be mandatory. Voting should be optional, but never obliged, because only some countries have compulsory voting and the least qualified leader could be chosen. First of all only a few countries have compulsory voting. According to document A, compulsory voting only had successful results on 13 countries out of the 40 that have It. Out of the total of 196 countries only 13 had made it possible to work, this tells you how inefficient it is having compulsory voting. There is also penalties for not voting which makes people to lose interest in voting. This penalties just makes compulsory voting even worse. Forcing citizens is not necessary, if a country wants to have more voter turnouts it should look for other ways that do not make voting a task instead of a right. Also voting should not be required because the least qualified leader could be chosen. According to document G, "But it is irresponsible to encourage the unaware to put their ignorance into action so aimlessly" "At least they'd only injure themselves ". This is expressing the idea that making compulsory voting a requirement will the hurt the country greatly. If people do not know how the two party system works,the division of power etc. they will chose by ignorance any leader. People need to know about whom they are voting for ,they need to know the candidates views and goals.
