Physical Beauty/Inner beauty

Beauty is not just about having a pretty face. The truth is, when one thinks about beauty, physical looks are the first thing to come to mind. This is unfortunate because what many people do not realize is that beauty is only skin deep. Inner beauty is more important than what people perceive from the outside” For example, there are countless methods and ways to alter ones physical appearance. Makeup, clothes and fitness are just a few examples of how to fit into society’s idea of “beauty”. This opposes to inner beauty because ones personality and characteristics are things that cannot be taken or copied. Inner beauty makes people unique, this relates to my next point. “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is a commonly known cliché, but it does have truth to it, especially when it is applied to looks. Physical appearance is what draws people in, or in other words, attracts others. So in a way, physical looks are important to some extent, but what actually keeps people interested is personality. Appearance is the first sign of identity and personality that a person shows. The majority of the people are used to judge by appearance instead of personality, but what happens when our personality and appearance are directly connected? Most of us would think that our body and our identity are somehow contradictory, but the reality is another. We reflect what we think it is correct in the opinions of others. This idea is expanded and explained in two essays: "The Story of My Body" written by Judith Ortiz Cofer, and "Never Just Pictures" by Susan Bordo.…

Many people have heard of the old saying that “beauty comes from within.” Although beauty is difficult to define due to differential views, the majority of people may agree that it is a person’s personality that makes them beautiful. According to Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, beauty is“the quality of being physically attractive.” Although this definition is somewhat true, it is not all that defines the term. Due to a new uprising in pop culture, beauty is now defined only by the attractive, physical traits a person has. Also, this generation attempts to sell beauty as a vapid and superficial pursuit that exists solely to sell products and wag tongues. Beauty is actually precisely identified, purposeful, and has…

In this country, we as Americans have developed a strong a tragic obsession with beauty. From the endless advertisements and media feeding us with an unattainable standard of beauty, we have become desensitized to what is truly beautiful; corrupting our perceptions, ideas, and even ourselves to define what is “perfect”. The whole concept of beauty has been corrupted by the hunger for money by people selling dreams and false hopes, and rattling our confidence only to capitalize on our low self-esteems that they have created. Realizing how critically judgmental and shallow our society truly is only probes me to wonder, does how we look truly define who we are?…

How do you judge if someone is beautiful the first time you see him or her? The most popular answer you may find is by physical appearance. Nowadays, the media greatly influences women’s point of view on beauty by displaying the idea that outer beauty is the only thing of all through images of good looking women in advertisements. After all, the traditional dictionary definition of beauty is when a person is easy to look at. Therefore, many people forget that there is more to a person than just their looks. In my eyes, beauty means fully loving yourself and appreciating what you were born…

There are a whopping seven billion people currently living on this Earth. That means that there are seven billion different opinions, outlooks, and definitions on the word “beauty”.
