How to change your oil
General purpose: To inform
Specific purpose: To inform the audience on how to change the oil in a vehical.
Central Idea: Changing ones oil in a vehicle is a skill that could save you a lot of time and money
I. Introduction
A. When you're driving down the road and that mileage reading on your dashboard reaches 3000 what do you? The first thing that pops in your head is there goes another 50 dollars for an oil change.
B. Almost everyone that owns a vehicle has had to take their vehicle in to a mechanic to get their oil change on their car. But if you want to save time and money you can always do it yourself.
C. My father taught me whenever I obtained my first vehicle at sixteen and I’ve been doing it myself since then. D. I will be explaining the steps on changing the oil on your vehicle every three thousand miles.
Transition: First, let me touch on a few tips and warnings when changing your oil.
II. Body.
A. Tips and Warnings:
i. You want to check your owner's manual or consult an automotive parts specialist to find out the weight of oil and type of oil filter your car needs. ii. You will need the year, make, model, and mileage of your car if you go to an auto parts store. iii. Make sure the car is securely supported before you crawl underneath. iv. You will need two jack stands to support the front of your car after jacking it up.
Transition: Now that we’ve learned a few tips, it’s time to get started.
B. Getting Ready:
i. You will need five quarts of oil, a socket set, new oil filter, oil drain pan, a funnel and a jack (or ramps). ii. Obtaining necessary tools and materials is a must if you plan to change your oil regularly. You might want to consider investing in jack stands, a socket set and oil drain pan. iii.
