Do you think Jem and Scout’s attitude and maturity change during the novel? Jem and Scout’s personalities were changed through the events of the novel and their father’s advice. This was hard on their father because their mom died when they were young. Jem learned about bravery and strength. Jem became more mature like his father. Scout became more like a girl. Jem and Scout learned that you cannot understand a person until you climb under his skin and walk around it.
Jem’s bravery and courage changed throughout the novel, starting in the first few chapters. At first Jem learned about bravery when his dad shot a mad dog on the street. Secondly he learned more about strength and hope from Miss Debouse’s addiction to morphine. Even though Miss Debouse new that she will die in no long time, she decided to get rid of her addiction. Thirdly he learned that he should not judge a person until you climb his skin and walk around it. But at the first day for her at school she wore a dress even though she didn’t like it (She wore it because Aunt Alexandra told her). As time passed she began to act more like a girl and likening it, for example she stopped hanging out with boys, stopped dressing like them and stopped acting like them. She so smart because she knows how to read and write while her classmates don’t, she can also write cursive. Moreover, she understood that some people are good and some people are bad, some are fair and some are unfair.
