Throughout my high school years, I maintained various leadership roles. The first of which was serving as a section leader in the marching band for three years. As a section leader, I was the example of how the section should act, present, and conduct them. I was also the captain of the golf and tennis teams, first leading by examples through my actions and then through my playing skills. At my home church, I am the Youth Director providing an example of how to live as a young Christian despite the temptation of peer pressure. While here at JMU, I am currently serving as a mentor at the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Boys and Girls Club to disadvantaged to youth. Just furthering my education beyond high school is the primary and first example of leadership. The kids at the club can look to me and see that I was once just like them but I’ve pushed through and maybe they can…
Although I have been fairly versed in multiple extracurricular activities throughout the last for years, I have dedicated myself entirely to service Leadership through Key Club International (KCI). KCI is the world's largest, foremost high school service leadership program in the world and has been the largest foremost influence in my high school career. I have served under multiple positions, the highest of honors being my current tenure as the Rocky Mountain District Governor in which i oversee all of the Key Clubs in Colorado, Wyoming and portions of Nebraska and New Mexico, and there other elected officials. My involvement has brought to my immediate attention my passion for leadership, but more importantly my love for serving others and…
Good leaders in times of emergencies to give proper direction and replace individuals that is fatigued. Effective and collaborative communication is the way to succeed. Work together as a team to achieve the same goals with the highest levels of success.…
This is I think my leadership skills improved through my capstone project and other various volunteer opportunities. For my capstone project I adopted a classroom of a head start preschool program in Chaska where I filled backpacks with school supplies that each child needs for the fall school year. My leadership skills played a significant role when having to contact outside business to ask for donations to receive the schools supplies. In addition, I delivered the backpacks to the classroom where I had the responsibility of leading the…
During high school, I committed most of my free time to my NJROTC unit and my 4-H club. In both of these organizations, community service, leadership, citizenship, and initiative are indispensable values that are essential to their functioning, and I like to think I have learned to embody these traits. In 4-H, I have attended, and then went on to teach, numerous leadership and group trainings. In NJROTC, I attended the Area 5 Leadership Academy, graduated as the Second Honor Cadet of the 2014 Academy, and was selected to be an Aide for the 2015 Academy. I held, or currently hold, leadership positions in both organizations and I feel I set a good example for my peers and subordinates. Through any task, I am enthusiastic about my job and…
A self-employed business man once said, “The best example of leadership is leading by example” (Jerry McClain). He describes a true leader, a pioneer whose morals and selflessness guide her to guide others. She is an inspiration, and a beacon of hope for all to follow. I share this passion for helping and guiding by example, and as a member of the National Junior Honor Society, I would seek to better the community just as I do every day inside and outside of the classroom.…
Scouting has played a large role in my life not only due to the fact that I have been involved in it since I first became a tiger cub in the first grade but I have also gained valuable experience from serving in numerous leadership positions which have pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me to hone my leadership skills. It takes personal leadership to devote yourself to principles of Scouting, and to eventually you pass all you know onto others. To direct and teach people is a skill, especially if it’s in an emergency, to show…
When I think at positive leadership I think of getting things accomplished with a minimum of time. There are many opportunity to be a leader in the national honors society and I hope by being a member this one of the things I can accomplish being prepared and organized help to maintain a good positive image. This is part of being a good role model. When working in a group it is important to have a leader who can take change by be outgoing and get together everyone’s idea. A leader should have knowledge of that task they are undertaking and follow thought with their goals. A leader never shows their angriness when people misbehave with…
My experience with being a leader in the groups that we did was a great learning experience. I learned a lot not only about myself, but also about what it is like to be the leader of a group. Leading a group was harder than I thought it would be and knowing how to start, what activities or techniques to use and what to say or do next was also harder than I thought.…
It is difficult to narrow down the many instances where I have showed great leadership but many can be found in my involvements in teamwork. I have been looked to as a leader and have taken responsibility for various group projects. I have discovered much about fairness, compromise, and responsible qualities that are required to be a "good" leader. Often, I have had to sacrifice my own free time and personal desires for the benefit of the group. I believe this is the most important part of being a leader, the ability to sacrifice individual time and desires for the overall gain of the people that you are leading.…
In my community I have been able to exert my leadership skills to their highest potential. My officer team and I have successfully put together many events for our community. One of our most effective events has been volunteering at my communities local soup kitchen. My team and I planned it out to where every Saturday we have ourselves and others from our school sign up to go and volunteer for a couple hours. Another thing that I have been able to apply my leadership…
Becoming Drill Team Captain was such a great experience. I feel as if becoming captain helped me with my leadership skills. Whenever my coach isn't at school, or she's busy, I have to be the one to make sure my team is on task with whatever we are doing. I lead warm ups, go over routines, etc. What made being captain so special to me was that I was able to help out my teammates. I helped them not only physically , as in perfecting the routines, but I also helped them emotionally and mentally. There's so many girls that come to me, needing someone to talk to. I love to help girls become more confident. Throughout the years I've been on drill team, and having different experiences each year, I've…
Throughout this essay I’ll use myself as an example of how JROTC has built an immense amount of leadership and admirable qualities in me. Being in the Drill Team for starters, has brought me places that I’d never thought I’d be- mentally and physically. With the atmosphere created in our drill team, I can feel that with hard work we can accomplish anything. It’s not only marching, it creates a new way of thinking and you develop new organizational skills. Drill Team allows you to work as one in a team with other members and see the results of what coming together can do. Trust is instilled, for you know that without one or two members, your team cannot work as well.…
Being in the Collingswood HS Marching Band for five years has put me in the position of being an example to the younger members. I have learned that patience, and perseverance are valued qualities in a leader. When helping a new member of my section in the band this year, I had to be patient with her so that she would be able to be able to contribute positively to the performance. Also, when time management between school, band, and other responsibilities have weighed heavily on me, I have…
From Elementary school to my present grade in High school, I was involved in different group works and stayed after school in order to perform distinct tasks that involved organizing clubs. Ever since I was young, I was looked to as a leader; separate teachers assigned me as a group helper, I felt that I finally was put in a place I belonged at. I have formed leadership skills that have made me independent and proud of my own work skills. I am able to take the lead in a situation and solve it.…
