Specific purpose: To introduce an American author being called the American Tolkien.
Thematic Statement/central idea: George R. R. Martin, a once struggling author from New Jersey, creates worlds of horror, science fiction, and fantasy. His characters are believable, like people who we would meet on the street.
Introduction: Have you ever needed to get away when life gets to be to much? Have you ever felt like you are the only one who life has turned on? Martin has had his own issues in life and has made a name for himself with in the world of fantasy especially. He knows how to writes real world people who the reader can connect with.

Introduction to Topic: George Richard Raymond Martin born on 20 September 1948 in Bayonne, New Jersey, a small industrial town, is an author of science fiction, horror and fantasy. He is currently living in New Mexico, married to Parris McBride (2011).
Credibility: I discovered this author when I found his box series, A Song of Ice and Fire, (2011). Quickly I became addicted to the twisted plot and vivid description, that bring the story to life making it seem real.
Preview: With so much going on with this man, I must hit on 3 points on him. I will go over his background both childhood and early writings leading to his current place, the complex characters with the combined elements of history and other genres, and lastly, his awards and nominations.
