Despite of those sacrifices we continue teaching because teaching our vocation; it is a calling from God. Teaching is also our mission an assigned task. Teaching is a profession; it is our way of rendering service to humanity. But touching the heart of the people and opening the minds of the children can give us joy and contentment which money could not buy. If we live up to our name as a professional teacher, a meaningful and fulfilled life will not be far .

Richard Harland’s World Shaker, describes some of the activities that take place on board the decks of the juggernaut, an oversized mechanical object that moves around the world over land and sea in competition for business and control. At this point in the story Colbert Porpentine the main character of this steam punk novel is with his Grandfather Sir Mormus Porpentine, touring the bottom decks of the juggernaut for the first time. Earlier in the novel when Riff, a fourteen year old Filthy girl on the run appears in Col’s room, he comes to realise that he has a no knowledge of his surroundings and of the other residents who live Below. Col becomes curious as to who they are and what they do. The next morning after Riff arrived uninvited, Col’s sister “Gillabeth, marched in” (p.10) to his room, gave a few orders and then Col began questioning her knowledge about the Filthies, but she didn’t know much either or wouldn’t give out any details. They both then attended the family breakfast. After Sir Mormus announced in front of the family that Col would become the next “Supreme Commander” (p.16), Col requested that he be shown the entire juggernaut, so that he could understand the complete workings of the vessel. The reason for Col’s request was not only to benefit his knowledge but also so that he could determine a safe way for Riff to return to Below, where she belonged. Sir Mormus agrees to take Col himself. After arrangements had been made and Col prepared himself, Sir Mormus guides Col down to the lower decks of the craft. Once on the lower decks Col observes from “viewing bay 17” (p.45) where he watches the Filthies working on the lower decks and Below.…

The educational system is known to have its problems. Although every school is different they all have similar teaching methods. Individuals are either taught to think critically or to think a certain way. In the "Banking Concept of Education" by Paulo Freire,he talks about how our thinking ability is taken away and argues that we should have the ability to take control of our lives and think critically. Freire demonstrates this by showing us two educational systems the "banking concept" and the "problem-posing" system. By approaching these two methods he provides us with his solution on how to think freely, critically and individually.…

There are many fundamental things wrong with our educational system. Children seem to not understand that getting good grades are integral to success. Carl Singleton, in his essay “What our Education System Needs is More F’s”, believes that the answer to this dilemma comes in teachers giving more failing grades to all the children who do not learn the material. I feel that this is not the best answer to this issue. Due to bell curve dynamics are staring to be considered essential for educators and curriculum developers. Not only that but kids get discouraged by failing grades, I believe that our education system would be made worse, not better, by creating a system where children are set…

The Article that I found off the website and the title of it is called “Managing stress in child care services”. To summarize the article, it goes on to explain and teach teachers and young professionals working in child care services or a preschool setting. The demands of working with young children and their families can be physical, intellectual and emotional which requires flexibility, compassion, and constant energy. There is never a break when in a child care setting/classroom setting because you are always moving and have no time to relax. The article goes on to explain that even the most dedicated child care professionals can be stretched to their limit and experience stress and eventually burnout. Here are as follows some questions that I summarized to help with dealing and what type of stress when in the child care center.…

Engaging students to write argumentative essays effectively and constructively is a general concern for WR 121 instructors here at University of Oregon. Because WR 121 emphasizes a different form of argumentative writing from a five-paragraph essay that students are generally used to, many students struggle to grasp the enthymeme-based argumentative writing that is being taught at University of Oregon. To ease the students’ understanding of utilizing enthymeme process, composition instructors take a great amount of time to select topics that could engage students. Some instructors prefer to teach students to write on popular culture such as sports and social media; others employ academic topics, which the students may not be familiar with, such as sustainability and globalization. While popular culture may seem to quickly bring students’ attention and express their thoughts on the paper, the effectiveness of these topics as teaching materials for critical argument should be questioned. WR 121 should require students to write about academic topics that they may not be familiar with because WR 121 emphasizes critical thinking, which is difficult to facilitate with popular cultures.…

Ausubel's theory is concerned with how individuals learn large amounts of meaningful material from verbal/textual presentations in a school setting (in contrast to theories developed in the context of laboratory experiments). According to Ausubel, learning is based upon the kinds of superordinate, representational, and combinatorial processes that occur during the reception of information. A primary process in learning is subsumption in which new material is related to relevant ideas in the existing cognitive structure on a substantive, non-verbatim basis. Cognitive structures represent the residue of all learning experiences; forgetting occurs because certain details get integrated and lose their individual identity.…
