Ferguson Case

The Michael Brown case has caused a lot of controversy around the globe. Especially after the grand jury's decision to not indict officer Darren Wilson. After reading volume
20 of the grand jury testimony I can only say I agree with the jury's verdict. Volume 20 showed us the testimonies of two forensic pathologist who testified, an audio recording of a man who claims to live in Canfield Apartment Complex and that same man's testimony. Both forensic pathologist mentioned how the gunshots were close range shots. They also mentioned how it is possible that he was shot from the back depending on Michael Browns body position. To reinforce the fact that Michael Brown was shot from the back came in the witness that says he saw Michael Brown run away from officer Wilson. After he saw Brown struggle with something in the SUV that officer
Wilson was in. This witness agrees with the fact that the officer had a reason to shot towards Brown. The second forensic pathologist who testified was the third person to autopsy Michael Brown’s body. Therefore he tried his best to make an assumption but when a body has been open and searched so many times all its evidenced is washed away. He did though mention in his testimony that Michael Brown could’ve been able to run away and act somewhat normally even after he had been shot. This of course explains Michael Browns ability to run away from officer Wilson after being shot. Though the witness wasn’t able to confirm if either officer Wilson or Michael Brown were injured when Michael sprinted away from it would explain the gunshot that made the witness

look outside. From what I read in this document I don't believe the officer had to be punished for his actions. If anything the officer was doing his duty as an officer. Lets state the facts they found Marijuana in Browns system and he ran away from an officer who was clearly telling Brown to stop if he was chasing him. In

Ptl. Rivera and I conducted a search of the vehicle and located a nearly empty bottle of UV vodka in the rear compartment of the vehicle. All three subjects submitted to a portable breath test and all three results yielded a BAC of .00. Martin stated that he shares the vehicle with his older cousin who is of age. The vodka was poured out and disposed of. Ptl. Rivera further located a Gillespie Lieutenant badge in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Martin stated that his grandfather is a retired police officer from Gillespie. I advised Martin that the badge would be seized and that his grandfather would have to come to the Bethalto Police Department and speak with me to have the badge returned to him. I continued to scold the three for having alcohol in the vehicle and to be trespassing on a road where there is a visible “No Trespassing” sign in the road. I told Martin to take Marrujo and Metcalf home immediately. I told Marrujo and Metcalf to tell their…

    Ride Along

I went on my ride along on Tuesday, April 30 with the NM State Police. I rode along with senior patrolman Israel Rodriguez. I had a lot of fun and think I learned a lot about how law enforcement actually works. The officer showed that he is always thinking about the law and how he has to be very careful in what he does so that he doesn’t get god evidence suppressed in court because he makes a small mistake. He said that it’s hard enough to get evidence admitted sometimes even when you collect it lawfully. We started out by cruising I-25 until we noticed a southbound vehicle with the driver not wearing his seatbelt. We pulled him over and gave him a citation and went on. We then received a call about a hit and run coming into town from Deming so we parked out and looked for the vehicle to come by that fit the description that the dispatcher gave us. We were waiting when we received another call about suspected child abuse on a 6 month old girl. As we were driving back to the station we kept getting more interesting information about the case. It turns out that the alleged abuser is a deputy with the Sheriff’s office and LCPD had already responded to the domestic violence call and didn’t take any action against the officer. The child had been returned to the mother with red marks on her neck, legs, and back and the mother had taken pictures. Officer Rodriguez spoke with the mother and heard about the officer’s previous use of intimidation and force when they fought, but that she didn’t want to proceed with charges, just that she wanted the incident documented. Officer Rodriguez wrote up a report and we jumped back on the highway when almost immediately we were lights and sirens toward a vehicle vs. truck collision on 185. We raced over there and jumped on the scene in which the motorcyclist was very injured and they ended up calling the helicopter to airlift him to the El Paso trauma unit. After a while Officer Rodriguez…

Forensic science continues to shape the world of justice, fueling crime investigations and signifying the progress of modern technology. While forensic science encompasses a multitude of techniques, the literature to follow will focus on the art of forensic autopsy. Though autopsies are more often used for purposes unrelated to crime, they play such a crucial role in murder investigations, that this field of forensic science has a large impact on where the investigation should begin. Forensic pathologists perform autopsies with the goal of revealing as many facts pertinent to the investigation of criminal cases. such as how the victim died, when the death occurred, what caused the death, and the manner of the death in question. Detailed examination of the external body for various markings or physical features will provide clues as to how the victim died, when the death occurred, what caused the death, and the manner of death of the victim in question. The external examination can also reveal the identity of the victim through distinguishing birthmarks, ethnicity, sex, approximate age, hair color and length, as well as eye color dependant upon the cause of death and/or the state of decomposition amongst other various factors. The internal examination of the body can further answer those questions that remain following the external examination. Through a number of different approaches, the internal examination consists of inspecting the internal organs of the body for evidence of trauma or other indications of the cause of death. The valuable techniques of forensic science and the abilities of the forensic pathologist in the investigative process are remarkable and often times are the starting point for investigators in criminal cases. The literature that follows reveals those specific techniques and the purpose that they serve in forensic autopsies.…

Everyone makes mistakes, even police officers. Police officers must make life changing decisions in a split second. Sometimes, these decisions are not the right decision based on the law. The Supreme Court recognized that police officers will make mistakes. Even the Fourth Amendment permits an officer to make mistakes and when an officer makes a mistake, the Court has ruled that the violation may not have a civil liability. Many times, the evidence discovered by the officer can still be used under “good faith”, exception for the exclusionary rules still applies (Henning, 2016).…
