TITLE OF EXPERIMENT: EXPERIMENT 3-TREATABILITY OF TIMBER IN DISTILLED WATER AT 100°C FOR 60 MINUTES.

INTRODUCTION:
The evaluation of treatability is based on the rate absorption of preservative. This experimental has an important role to play particularly for the impregnation of timbers in the vacuum pressure process or the double vacuum process. Depend on particular wood, the treatment parameters are selected to ensure the wood receives optimum protection from the process. The standard preservative treatment is in grouping of seven, which is important to treat timber in order to know the absorption range of each. The treatability grouping of Standard Preservative Treatment is available in the table below:

OBJECTIVES:
To understand the principle of the above evaluation of timber treatability at a laboratory scale.
To find out how treatability is affected by distilled water at temperature 100°C for 60 minutes.

LITERATURE REVIEW:

Kapur, or Dryobalanops spp. The timber is a medium hardwood in the range density of 580-820 kg/m3.
Kapur have a very high percentage of shrinkage.
The shrinkage of some species are summarised below:

Meranti, or Shorea spp. This timber is a light hardwood with a range of density between 595-755 kg/m3.
Different with Kapur, Meranti have an average percentage of shrinkage.

    This solution is also known as an insecticide, which in simpler terms is a chemical (Emamectin Benzoate). This would be injected into the base of any ash tree and is used to kill off the EBA or any other unwanted pests. Now many wonder if it will hurt the tree, and the answer is no. This chemical is not only killing the EBA, but also helping the ash trees redeem their strength (Tree-age). In studies, after using the Tree-age, the percentage of the EBA and any other pests have dramatically decreased. In research, after only a month of having injected the insecticide into the tree, it is close to 99% clearance of the EBA. This solution has been proven to eliminate massive amounts of larva and adults (Emamectin Benzoate). Although this chemical is extremely effective, there are some drawbacks. Unfortunately, this is a highly sensitive chemical and needs to be inserted into the tree properly, or the effect won’t be as successful, therefore, anytime it needs to be injected into the tree, it needs to be completed by a professional. Another downfall is that the chemical should be re-applied every two years (Tree-age). With these downfalls it may seem impossible, but the idea of this insecticide is to slow the insect from spreading.
