Introduction
What is exoneration ?
Exoneration is an action in which someone is cleared of guilt, blame, responbility, obligation in criminal law. Providing an avenue to allow innocent people to be discharged of guilty verdicts .
What situation ?
Exoneration occurs when a person who has been convicted of a crime is later proved to have been innocent of that crime.
Case 1 : Jimmy Ray Bromgard Age at Arrest : 18 Year of conviction : 1987 Hometown : Billings, Montana Sentence Served : 14.5 Years Exoneration Year : 2002
Background :
On March 20, 1987, a young girl was raped in her Billings home by an intruder who had broken in through a window.
Factors that led to conviction : 1. A composite sketch 2. Bad lawyering 3. The “hair expert”
Punishment Charged :
40 years.
Reason of release : DNA testing showed that Jimmy wasn’t the attacker.
Group opinion :
In this case, we think that Innocent Project should be encourage to establish in every country to help the victim under the justice system. This is because the victim was innocent, so they need some organization’s help. There got many way to help the victim just like Innocent Project. Moreover, everyone should not give up, The victim should take seriously on identify the criminal. If no sure about it, let do a test and depend the evidence. We should not judge someone by their looks.
