Essay On My Ambition In Life To Become A Marine Corps
A career in the Marine Corps has its roots in my childhood. As a kid, I read a lot a fantasy books with valiant and selfless warriors who sacrificed their lives and safety for others. They were childhood heroes to a kid who didn’t watch sports or TV. As much as I marveled and sought to be like my storybook heroes, I grew to love jet planes just as much. At the time, fast planes were the coolest. I spent a lot of my time poring over fact sheets and technical information I didn’t understand. My childhood aspirations were to be either a warrior or a jet pilot, but as I grew up I realized I could be both. I could be a Marine. The Naval Academy can turn this dream into a feasible goal which I can accomplish.

Fortunately, in the time I attended a marching percussion camp that challenged me like no other, I gained the focus and drive that will serve me in this endeavor. At every single point in the camp I was grossly outclassed. I couldn’t march or keep time as well as the others. I was constantly called out by instructors whose patience waned with every mistake I made. There was no retreat from this struggle, only adaptation and struggle. I learned how to thrive under the pressure that was placed on me to get every note and rhythm right. I worked hard every day to improve, partly for myself, but more importantly for the drumline I was in. Working hard for my fellow drummers to make our performance as good as possible helped me to think less selfishly and more for others and the grand scheme of things. I improved vastly that week in both my playing and character. These improvements helped me gain leadership positions at school, assisting me in leading our percussion ensemble to State Solo and Ensemble two years in a row. Now, with these challenges before me I press on, dependent on my dreams, sense of duty, and character to push mf
