Essay Informal & Formal English
Unit 2: THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
ESSAY: INFORMAL/FORMAL ENGLISH
Here is your goal for this assignment: * Produce writing that illustrates your understanding of formal and informal English

You will be writing two separate paragraphs. The first paragraph, on any subject of your choice, will be written in informal English. Informal English is conversational in tone. There should be no grammatical or spelling errors in this paragraph, so be sure to proofread your work carefully.
The second paragraph will be on the identical subject as the first essay, but use formal English instead. This paragraph will express the same concepts as the first, but the writing style should be smooth and highly polished. Again, proofread carefully anything you write.

INFORMAL ENGLISH
About a month ago I was fired from my job. It was a terrible experience for me. I thought for a moment I was done but I had a funny feeling about what was happening and I thought to myself this could be an opportunity. I have always been a fan of cooking. I used to take cooking lessons when I was a child. I really believed I could make my dream come true and start my own business. I could open a restaurant anyplace I liked. So I dove into the task and tried and do my best. I borrowed the money off of my brother and I started to build my cuisine empire. I found an old house and fixed it to look like a restaurant. I swapped some old furniture for cooking equipment and finally I bought some groceries and started cooking. After a couple of weeks I had stood up for myself and made it in the business.

It was really clear, passionate, critic, but precise letter. He exposed how difficult are for newbies in the kitchen. It is weird how understanding he sounds when he steps back and gives some insight of the reason this person quits. However, he also opens up the reality of the kitchen, recognizes the raw truth about how hard the pressure and the work is. How much sacrifice it requires and slim the possibility that you become a star. On the other hand he does give an insight of how he sees the rewards of this career path, compliments how at the end or far ahead you look back and see the real award and reality of this profession. A reward only for those who can keep up the pace.…

When I finally got to my food the look on the lunch lady’s face as I grabbed my food was magnificent they looked so like they loved their job. For my choice of food, I picked cheesy breadstick with a packet of marinara sauce, romaine salad w/ dressing, hash brown stick, a pear, and a low -fat chocolate milk. As I walked back to my table students greeted me and shook my hand and a few came to sit with me. Before I dipped my bread stick into the little cup of marinara sauce I looked at it.The cheesy, baked flavorful and fluffy bread stick looked as if it was caramelized with butter. I broke the bread stick open to look at the cheese. The cheese looked so creamy and delicious I could not help myself I took a bit and the cheese melted in my mouth the bread was doughy but cooked enough to be just right. Next I took a bite into the pear. It was so juicy the citrus was so superior it was magnificent.…

After noticing that pattern I started to realize that the length of time that you have been out of work matters. What was I to do? I tried to go back to the industry I was in prior but that didn’t work either. The architectural firms which is where my last two jobs were had a lot of budget cuts because of the recession that was happening in New York. It effected so many people. A lot of companies were getting rid of their employees left and right. So what is the best course of action to get back into the workforce because I had a family to provide for just like everybody else? I sign up to a bunch of temp agencies and they begin to call me for little 1-3 day assignments to only land the one I hated the most. There is no nice way to put it, I am a scheduler that’s it. I cannot spend the rest of my life doing this. There is so much more for me to do. My commute is horrible because I have to travel all the way to the Bronx from Brooklyn. That is every day and who wants to do that plus I have to be to work for 7am so I am up by 4 am and out the house by 5am? Is this job really worth it? I think not, but I have to keep a roof over my head and light, gas etc. So I guess you can say “I need Blow…

She was so flustered and nervous as if she didn’t know where or how to began, finally she said that Charlie and the other bosses wanted her to let me go. I was totally speechless let me go “I exclaimed” my heart sunk I was knocked back, it knocked the wind clean out of me, I wanted to vomit I was sick, and I totally couldn’t believe she was firing me, me of all people. When I finally found my voice again I asked why and she refused to give a reason and it hurt. I got so angry with her that I raised my voice, jumped out of my seat begging for a reason why. I think I scared her because she jumped back and got up and asked me to leave her office now! I caught myself breathed deeply then apologized told myself to calm down and asked her again in a calmer voice why was she firing me what have I done to deserve this and she still refused to tell me why. Then I told her that I was not leaving until she’d give me a reason or explanation, why. So to get rid of me she called Charlie gave me the phone, so that I could speak with him. Before I even spoke a word he told me to leave the premises before they called the police and have I escorted from the building because I was no longer needed or wanted.
