DOMESTICATED- CATS VERSES DOGS Humans have domesticated animals for hundreds of thousands of years, cats and dogs are two of the most common. As cats and dogs became more domesticated over the years we can see that they have become used to living in captivity. Since cats and dogs are completely different species, the comparison and contrast will be made on how they are both common household pets. Going through the topics of characteristics, size, activities, grooming, caring and feeding of these types of pets, we will see the differences and similarities they have with each other. As we go through each pet trait you should be able to make a decision on which one would best suite you.
Let’s begin with the similarities between cats and dogs, for the understanding of what both types of animals have to offer as well as some disadvantages. The most common thing between cats and dogs is that they both have fur, which can cause allergies to act up, from the dander in their fur, also more cleaning of the house because of the shedding. For these types of domesticated animals, it is highly recommended that you take them in for regular check-ups with a veterinarian for vaccines and other health related problems. Both cats and dogs can eat wet, dry, or a combination of the two foods to maintain a healthy diet. Another basic trait that dogs and cats are alike is they can adjust for outside or inside living without having any problems. At the same time they both have litters twice a year and can have as many as ten babies during a single litter. Both cats and dogs are one in the same when it comes to being loveable and giving affection, and both like to

To begin with, the reason why cats are more desirable is: cats are independent and can be left unaided. Alex Libber’s article from December 10th, 2014 on petplace.com states,”But because a cat is more independent, they can be left alone for longer periods of time. Although a cat will miss you, she doesn’t depend on you to be home right at 5 p.m. for a walk. If you go for longer periods, your cat will do well with a house sitter, but she can also get by without someone feeding and checking up on her twice a day.” This shows cats are independent creatures and can be left home alone. Clearly, cats are perfectly well off being home alone, while dogs are not. Dogs need you or a house sitter to feed, walk, and take care of them.…

I know this sounds trivial and silly but this particular connection is far more important than people would expect. Ph. D John Bradshaw states that although the owner’s bond with the animal will remain constant and strong no matter the species of the animal, their feelings towards you could be significantly different depending on which animal you choose. He then backs up this claim stating the obvious “cats are different from dogs”. This is something we all know but we probably don’t pay much attention to what that means when choosing an animal to grow a relationship with. For instance, a dog will need to be walked unlike a cat, which means you will need to commit to the extra exercise and work put into an animal, this may be why dog owners stress that their bond is much greater than those of a cat owner (Bradshaw, John, Ph.…

For the years that we have been living we all have come to realize that dogs are more trainable than cats. Canines have been trained to care for their owners, fetch news papers and some are trained as watch dogs for the blind. Others are close in social status to a Deputy – sometimes referred to as Deputy Dogs. This is pretty remarkable to think that we have dogs that are capable of recognizing and, attacking criminals, identifying drugs and placing criminals under arrest. In most cases we have dogs that are trained to be remarkable house dogs. Dogs have been trained over the years to perform entertaining tricks such as, roll over, fetch, shake hand and even play dead. There are many dogs which have developed bad habits. Special attention and training programs have been developed to assist dogs in shaking these bad habits. These bad habits include, biting, chewing on furniture and rugs, digging holes, barking consistently without apparent reason and most of all, house soiling. Cats on the other hand belong to the feline family and are not as trainable as dogs. There is just a significant limit to their training. Yes they are able to be home trained - to prevent house soiling, but to prevent them from damaging your furniture with their claws, you basically have to clip the claws. When cats are kept as pets, they become attached to their human…
