Different roles in a school
School Governors
School governors are members of a school's Governing Body. In schools they have responsibility for raising school standards through their three core strategic functions of ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction, holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Head teacher
The Head teacher has overall responsibility for the school, the management of its staff and the education that the pupils will receive. Most of their duties are managerial and pastoral. Head teachers lead, motivate and manage staff by passing on responsibility, setting expectations and targets and evaluating staff performance. The emphasis of their role is to provide an educational vision and direction.
Deputy Head teacher
Deputy Head teachers play a major role in managing the school, particularly in the absence of the head teacher. They are often responsible for a curriculum area and/or specific areas of school management.
Assistant head teacher
Assistant Head teachers support the head and deputy head teacher with the management of the school. An assistant head teacher is normally in charge of a specific area of the school, such as administration, staff appraisal, discipline etc.
Early year’s coordinator
Early years coordinator are responsible for children in the foundation stage, leading the foundation team of teachers, nursery nurses early years teaching assistants to make sure they are aware of the early year curriculum and where they should be working at.
Key stage coordinator Key stage coordinator employed to lead and manage either Key Stage 1 or 2. Also to take responsibility for delivery and performance of a subject or subjects within a Key Stage in order to promote effective teaching and learning by students.
