Critical Thinking and Society Exercise
Critical and Creative thinking can be vital in an individual decision-making process. These two thought processes can help an individual to determine how to decipher or retain perception information or establish how a message will be implemented. Critical thinking is a mental process of how information is analyzed, applied, conceptualized, or evaluated to reach a conclusion. Creative thinking is an ability to create a solution, thinking out the box to create a conclusion, or an answer. In this paper a critical and creative situation will be discussed to determine the similarities of these two concepts, characterize, and identify the thought process of free will, truth, knowledge, and opinion, identify three hindrances of critical thinking, and identify, and distinguish the perception of a message in an advertisement.
Describe situation
A situation where critical and creative thoughts can be used for a better outcome could be changing careers. When deciding to change careers both are necessary because a person have to think critically about the life changes that come along with changing careers. For example, the amount of money (whether it will be less or more), change in the schedule (how it affects family life). Creativity is necessary to measure the outcomes of the decision. As an example, will the change impact the individual negatively or positively, and what to do about it if the impacts has a negatively.
Define Free, Truth, Knowledge, and Opinion In the conceptual foundation of thinking there are four key words that need to reflect on an individual decision-making process free-will, truth, knowledge, and opinion. (1) Free-will- is an attribute of acts in which, an individual intentionally make choices on how to control his or her judgments, performances, or either his or her values. Free-will is a thought

Throughout the course of the Roman Republic, they were threatened by many different countries around them. They created a mighty military that crushed the Latin states. After that, they waged a war against the Samnites, and were victorious. They had a significant portion of Italy as a result, and came into direct contact with the Greeks. The Roman's culture was greatly affected by the Greeks (such as adapting gods). Later on, the Romans crushed the Greeks, and had most of Italy under control. Their conquests were successful because of their great military strategy and their effectiveness of their ruling. For example, they gave their conquered civilians full Roman status, and gave them a stake in success. They also crushed rebellions without mercy, and used force when necessary. The Romans were good soldiers and persistent ones; they rebuilt the losses after each battle. They also built interconnecting roads that helped them move ideas, people, and weapons/food across Italy to fortified positions. Rome essentially mobilized the manpower of Italy for war.…

A situation that comes to mind in which critical thinking and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome in the President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky affair. Indecent affairs, such as what President Clinton participated on, are highly frowned upon especially in a man of his stature. He was the leader of the Free World. If President Clinton had used critical thinking, his presidency would not have been put to shame. Although his actions did not end his presidency, he placed a great deal of embarrassment to his family and his office. If he even took a second to weigh the outcome of his actions, he would have realized the discredit he placed on himself, his family, and his country. This would be the same for all the elected officials or anyone holding a high position. As leaders, people look up to them as someone with high moral values. Critical and creative thinking is necessary to evaluate results of actions before it is done.…

With this thinking hat, we focus on the data available to us. We observe and look at the information we have, and from there, we can learn from it. This is also where we look for gaps in our knowledge, and either try to fill them or take account of them. By using this hat, we can analyze past trends, and try to extrapolate from historical data. It is about making use of what we know. We’ll provide examples from the story itself and also do reflections based on our way of seeing things.…

The general audience I would like to target in this particular essay would have to be my fellow classmates, and instructor. What I feel I am expressing in this essay about “The American Culture” by Deborah Tannen will be in relation to any and all participating in this assignment as well as having read this particular article. Being Americans, we have all read this article, even if not by words. Just as we all live in the “argument culture” now, being America. I consider my audience to be informal, and perhaps a little apathetic towards this subject. I plan to inform, and in some way motivate my audience to view the exact same article they have read on their own, through another fellow peers words, my words.…
