The first reason why athletes should be required to sit out is because a second concussion can be severe and even result in death. On the other hand, there are rules in place that help deal with concussions. As well as protective gear that helps prevent concussions. The head gear is lined with vinyl that absorbs multiple shocks to the head, however these head gears are only used in football, and hockey. (Article 1) The rules also in place say that a health care provider has to allow a player to return if they suffer a concussion, but a health care provider can miss a certain point in their diagnosis.
In conclusion an athlete should be required to sit out for longer periods of time, because it can lead to permanent brain damage and have longer lasting effects on the player themselves. Athletes who suffer from a concussion, will have long term effects like depression, and loss of cognitive functions permanently. This will also effect them in the long run, and will cause them to be troubled later in
