Compare The Statues Of David Michelangelo
In the renaissance the biblical character, David, was very popular especially between the three sculptors such as Michelangelo, Bernini, and Donatello. The three statues that are presented are statues of David before, during, and after the battle with the giant Goliath. The story of David is presented in the book of Samuel in the bible. In the book of Samuel it states that the Philistine army had gathered for war against Israel. Goliath was a Philistine giant measuring over nine feet tall. Goliath wore a full armor suit and for forty days he challenged the Israelites to fight. However, the Israelites would not fight because they were absolutely terrified of Goliath. One day David was sent to battle, and at the time David was a young teenager.

Michelangelo made the statue out of stone. I have seen this status in real life when I went to Italy last summer. I went to Italy to represent America in softball as a starter on the America’s team. I saw this statue in the city of Florence. The statue of David by Michelangelo in Florence is bigger than life size unlike the other two statues. Florence uses the statue of David as a symbol of defense because of what it represents. The statue of David was positioned to where David’s eyes were toward Rome, because the statue of David’s eyes are glaring. The reason for this is because Michelangelo wanted to show how David was looking at Goliath before the battle started. The real statue of David is not located in the streets anymore it was replaced by a replica to protect it from damage. This particular statue of David looks confident to me, because he trusts in God and the talents he has received from God. The reason he is naked is because I believe Michelangelo wanted to truly portray the vision that David didn’t need a “kings armor” to defeat Goliath, the only armor that David needed was the only true king and that is the armor of God. I also believe that Michelangelo sculpted the statue as a man because David stepped into a grown man’s position while keeping the confidence and not being scared. David’s confidence came from the faith of God because he knew God would not let him
