Introduction:

The growth of World Wide Web combined with increase in use of technology has paved the online use of any technology. Web based data base are online data base which allows the user to share the database on the web, whereas others can access it from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.

Over the last two decades, a significant body of research has focused on identifying various factors that influence user acceptance behaviour of web based technology (Davis, 1989; Davis et al., 1989, Lucas and Spitler, 1999). Quite a number of studies have been published for studying the web based database (Maja Pantic et al., 2005, Antonija Mitrovic et al., 2004). Even though number of studies explains about the adoption of web based technologies, there still exists a gap in the research which needs explanation about individual adoption of web based database.

This study looks at factor affecting individual adoption of web based database from technological and user perspective. This research going to investigate web based database acceptance by combining the work done by (Mun Y Yi et al., 2003) pertaining to “Predicting the use of web-based information systems: self-efficacy, enjoyment, learning goal orientation, and the technology acceptance model” and by (Irwin T.J.Brown et al., 2002) pertaining to “Individual and Technological factors affecting perceived ease of use of web based learning technologies in a developed country”. Specifically this study investigates the impact of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, ease of finding, ease of understanding, self efficacy, computer anxiety and enjoyment on intended usage of web based database by individuals. As the web based database are increasingly expanding through research and development. This study will be

Technology acceptance is a factor that determines the success of the technology since the technology is of no value, if we may say, if the users don’t accept it and don’t use it. A lot of models and theories have been developed to measure the user’s acceptance of technology. We mention:…

Abstract User acceptance of technology has been an important field of study for over two decades now. Although many models have been proposed to explain and predict the use of a system, the Technology Acceptance Model has been the only one which has captured the most attention of the Information Systems community. Thus, it is essential for anyone willing to study user acceptance of technology to have an understanding of the Technology Acceptance Model. This paper provides a historical overview of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by summarizing the evolution of TAM, its key applications, extensions, limitations, and criticisms from a selective list of published articles on the model. Current observations indicate that although TAM is a highly cited model, researchers share mixed opinions regarding its theoretical assumptions, and practical effectiveness. It is concluded that research in TAM lacks sufficient rigor and relevance that would make it a well established theory for the IS community. In 1986, Davis Jr (1986) established a model called TAM that explains users' acceptance and use technology. Since then it became a one of the most established models for technology acceptance. It specifies main factors of technology acceptance. This makes useful in explaining or predicting a person behavior across a various collection of end-user computing technologies and user groups. TAM advocates that when a new technology is presented to users, numerous factors influence users’ decisions regarding when and how they will use it. According to Davis Jr (1986), these factors are Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU) and Perceived Usefulness (PU) of technology. The PU is defined as the extent to which a user thinks that the performance of his or…

Venkatesh et al (2003) believe that the UTAUT is an enhancement of all the models of technology acceptance since it is built on as many as eight different theories of technology acceptance which have been brought together to help explain technology adoption and the rate of adoption. They explain that, users’ intentions in using a particular information system and subsequent adoption of that technology as a way of life is dependent on four main factors. These include: the expected performance level of the technology, the expected effort that must be put into that particular technology compared with what pertains in the past. Venkatesh et al (20003) explain that the third factor…

In the five existing literatures and studies, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and perceived risk are the determinants of variables which used to measure and examine the intention of use or behavioral intention. Perceived usefulness is defined as the user’s perception of the probability of using a system will increase his or her job performance and perceived ease of use is defined as the perception of the degree of effort the user needs to use the system (Azmi and Bee, 2010; Fu et al., 2006). Perceived risk is defined as the perception of the amount of loss or uncertainty that a user will encounter while pursuing a desired outcome (Ng and Bee. 2010; Fu et al, 2006; Schaupp et al., 2010). From the mentioned literature, the other factors which used to examine the intention to use included subjective norms/social influence (Fu et al., 2006; Schaupp et al., 2010), self-efficacy (Fu et al, 2006), facilitating conditions (Fu et al., 2006; Schaupp et al., 2010; Suhani Anuar and Radiah Othman, 2010), amount of information (Suhani Anuar and Radiah Othman, 2010) and optimism bias (Schaupp…
