Simon Koster is a 94-year-men who was admitted and was treated for COPD exacerbation and community acquires pneumonia. The patient has a history of COPD, but does not use oxygen at his home. Since being here at the hospital, the patient health has improved. The patient needed oxygen and she was examined for home O2 and was approved for it yesterday. The patient’s lungs were very tight and he had bilateral wheezing and mostly on the right side, he had rhonchi. He seemed fragile and even though he was requesting to be discharged, he did not appeared well for approval. During the night the patient needed to urinate and needed use the restroom. He stated that he needed to urinate and stated that he decided not to call for assistance and that the…
There are toxic particles in smoke that can stimulate mucus secretion and destroy the infection-fighting phagocytes. (McMillan, 2010). Smoking can also make a person more susceptible to colds and other illnesses. Smoking has many risks, including bronchitis, cancer, asthma, emphysema, COPD, cardiovascular disease, slow bone healing and many more. Tobacco smoke in the body can convert into carcinogens, which can lead to lung cancer. Smoking can affect homeostasis by affecting oxygen levels and increasing the levels of carbon dioxide and by affecting the strength of the blood flow in the lungs. It would cause the heart to work harder to pump the blood to the lungs. (McMillan,…
The case study presents the outcome of smoking that resulted to RS’ chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. His ABGs’ show partially compensated respiratory acidosis as manifested by decreased pH, increased PaCO2, decreased PaO2 and increased HCO3. RS most likely has the following clinical findings caused by COPD: enlarged right heart along with the signs and symptoms of the right-sided failure, secondary polycythemia, hypoxemia and hypercarbia. The fact that he has chronic bronchitis, his cough is productive with thick mucus, breath sounds are coarse rales and chest is tight. Expected symptoms in emphysema…

This includes scheduling activities to follow the patterns of levels daily and replacing outdoor activities with indoor ones when levels exceed the healthy ranges. Patients should also be aware of where to find these levels and how particular levels affect them directly. Patients would also benefit in avoiding locations such as places that allow smoking or surrounding where excessive amounts or running engines as these may also cause respiratory issues for patients at risk. Assessing other parts of their lives and potential exposure may also be beneficial; such as potential hazards at place of employment or sharing a household with a smoker. Respiratory patients have many obstacles but everyone can help to make the world a cleaner safer place for all.…
The signs and symptoms of COPD may happen slowly. Shortness of breath, especially during activity, is one the earliest symptoms. You may have a morning cough that is dry, or that brings up mucus from the lungs. Smokers may mistake this cough for a “normal smoker’s cough”. A smoker’s cough is never “normal” and may mean that your lungs are already damaged by smoking. As time passes, the cough may start to last longer during the day. You may start to cough up more mucus. You may be prone to develop colds and other lung infections more often than you used…
Chronic inflammation plays a major role in COPD pathophysiology. Smoking and other airway irritants cause neutrophils, T-lymphocytes, and other inflammatory cells to accumulate in the airways. Once activated, they trigger an inflammatory response in which an influx of molecules, known as inflammatory mediators, navigate to the site in an attempt to destroy and remove inhaled foreign debris.…
There are various forms of respiratory disease that not only debilitate, but claim the lives of millions of Americans each year. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Tuberculosis, Lung cancer, Asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis are just a few of the common respiratory infections that disrupt the functions of organs and tissues responsible for providing oxygen to the body. In this paper I will discuss Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease also referred to as COPD as my primary theme of respiratory disease. I will describe the severity of COPD, its epidemiology, as well as how it is diagnosed and treated. I will describe whether COPD is classified as a primary, secondary, or tertiary disease and finally address how COPD impacts society as it relates to the business of heath care and the use of resources.…
September 11, 2001just after 8:45a.mif you turned the television on the images you saw took your breath away. Little did we know that 14 years later that would be one of the aftermath a lot of the servers, first responders and people who were in the area that day would still be feeling. Due to the collapse of the Twin Towers and the fumes from jet fuel burning people are surfing daily from repertory issue. Some of the first responds started becoming ill weeks after this. They began developing repertory problem; Asthma, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Sarcoidosis and Lung cancer are just some of the issues they devolved. Soon people that where in area that day began devolving the same issues. Now these poor people have this will be haunted not just of image they much rather forget but along road of poor health.…
The article reviewed gives medicines as a treatment for patients suffering COPD. “Medicines for COPD alleviate symptoms of breathlessness so that patients can participate more fully in daily life” (Tullet, 2010, p. 28). People with COPD can avoid strenuous activities, stop smoking, and use medicines to slow down the symptoms of COPD. Occupational exposure can also exacerbate the symptoms of COPD. People who work around chemicals, a variety of different dusts, and fumes need to decrease their exposure to these…

According to Thomas Gale Moore, a senior at the Hoover Institution, warmer climates are unlikely to create a rise heat-related deaths. He mentions a point made by Science Magazine that “people adapt…. One doesn’t see large numbers of cases of heat stroke in New Orleans or Phoenix, even though they are much warmer than Chicago” (Moore 4). In other words, people adjust to the difference in climate.…
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an acute disease that block airflow which result in hard to breathe. It is a progressive disease in which it gets worse on longer period. COPD can result coughing that produces large amounts of mucus, chest tightness, severe breathing problem, wheezing and other symptoms. Cigarette smoking is the main cause of COPD. Long-term exposure to lung irritants like air pollution, gases, chemical fumes, or dust may promote to COPD…
