Balancing Globalization and Nationalism
Globalization is a world-famous phenomenon that is happening in today’s world trade industry. It is the development of a global economy marked by free trade, free flow of capital, and exchange of culture, traditions, and ideas among nations in order to make globally acceptable principles. In short, globalization is the integration among nations to create something universal. It is an advantage to the world market. However, it also serves as a major threat to nationalism. As they say, “it makes the world smaller”, It may have been unnoticeable but somehow it has slowly eliminated the diversity among different nations. Even so, globalization is so beneficial that we cannot afford to deny or disregard it. That’s why, it’s better to strive to achieve balance. And so we are faced with the next question, “HOW?” As we embrace globalization, we should continue our struggle to improve our Korean culture and make our culture as a globally acceptable culture. We must not adopt another culture without considering its pros and cons. We should accept merits of globalization and deny demerits. Second, we should strive to perfect our craft so we may be able to compete with other nations and even beat them in terms of quality. Such can be applied in the way we create Korean dramas and movies. Third, we should learn foreign language and study different cultures so we may be able to compete with globalization. And lastly, we should know that we cannot stay alone and should be allied with North Korea, and North East Asia such as China, Japan, and neighboring countries. While we protect our good culture we can accept another country culture. It is the best way to make balance. Yes, globalization is beneficial and we must embrace it.
